70's Song of the Day: "King of Nothing" by Seals and Croft

Does anybody remember this song from the 70's (I'm willing to bet that DavidEye and a few others will):

King of Nothing
Seals and Crofts

When I was seventeen I dreamed of being king and
Having everything I wanted
But that was long ago and
My dreams did not unfold so
I'm still the king of nothing

When I was seventeen I dreamed I gave a ring to
A pretty queen and then I held her
But that was slumber's fault for
I have no love at all and
I'm still the king of nothimg

If I could rule I'd dance my cares away
Find romance every day
I wouldn't have to listen to this poor fool say
I'm the king
I'm the king
I'm the king of nothing

[break]

If I could rule I'd dance my cares away
Find romance every day
I wouldn't have to listen to this poor fool say
I'm the king
I'm the king
I'm the king of nothing

Just started listening to this song again recently; I love the melody and the musical arrangement. The lyrics are kinda depressing though, it tells of a man who had all these dreams when he was younger, and he comes to realize that none of his aspirations came true, thereby making him "the king of nothing". You feel like telling him, "Damn, dude, pop a Prozac or something. Life is not all that bad!" lol Great song; I love it!
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I like Seals & Crofts and listen to their greatest hits occasionally. This has always been a weird song to me. The music is very peppy, sort of like a Monkees song...and then those depressing lyrics.

It's on the greatest hits, David.

DavidEye, you should start a thread about "Diamond Girl", since that was probably Seals and Crofts biggest hit. Everybody knows that song. smile

It's funny, cuz they had three top 10 hits and they all peaked at #6 - Summer Breeze (I'd argue that this is their biggest hit), Diamond Girl, and Get Closer.

Oh yeah, I forgot about 'Summer Breeze', and you're right, that could very well have been their biggest hit. Strange how all three songs peaked at #6 (must have been Seals and Croft's lucky number or something).
