Mary J. Blige VS. Faith Evans

So which do you prefer? Both are R&B/Hip hop singers...both have tattoos, and I don't think they get along....

I have to say Mary J. Blige has definitely paved the way for Evans, because Blige was the first to have songs that really mixed R&B with hip hop..but then Faith Evans came along during the heyday of Puffy's Bad Boy label and tried to take over.

My personal preference is Faith Evans. I love Blige's music don't get me wrong, but live, she just can't sing. Blidge is a studio singer, where Faith Evans can sing way better than Blidge live. I just feel that Faith's voice is more soulful than Blidge's.

Which one do you prefer?
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

They don't (or at least didn't) get along, because Puffy was molding Faith in Mary J.'s image once he and Mary J. were on the outs with each other. Faith has a nice enough voice (she's like a watered down Chaka), but she doesn't have the range that Mary J. has. People like to rag on Mary's voice, but I don't give a damn - she puts more soul into her music than almost anyone out there now. I don't think this generation has an Aretha Franklin, but she's as close as it gets. I'm looking forward to her new album come December.

PS - there's no "d" in Mary J. Blige wink Yes, she's spotty live, but when she's on she's ON. Her Grammy performance of No More Drama is one of my all-time favorite live TV performances.

That was one of the best TV performaces I've ever seen too. I think it should be recognized more than it has been. Between the 2, I give it to Mary. I like Faith, but I feel Mary more than I do Faith.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Serious now , i think Mary J Blige exaggerates her singing in every song , it sounds too overreacted , i only heard 2 Faith Evans songs and her singing was ok , at least she didn't do that

(wrong word edit)

They´re both ghetto but I like them, at least some of their songs. I used to be a big MJB fan but I can´t stand her screaming and melisma these days, plus she does way too many collaborations. Then again, What´s The 411 and My Life are so great that she´ll always have my respect for those albums. She takes herself a bit too seriously.
Faith seems to be more down to earth and the "songs I like per album " ratio is much higher with her music these days, it used to be the other way around.
Anyway, they´re both cool, I´m just not into divas with fur and tatoos.

I like Mary, she's cool.

I despise Faith's ugly ass on every level.

I love Mary J! She is amazing and I don't agree with people saying she can't sing live. I like my artists a bit rough around the edges so her singing is cool with me. She rocks!

Harlepolis

The 1st time I saw the grammy per4mance of MJB's NMD, I thought she was POSSESSED @ some point.

Mary got depth in her voice no matter how many off-keys she's dragging,,,when it comes to melancholy-ness, nobody does it betta than her(from this breed of female vocalists).

Faith Evans is a vocal beast, don't sleep on her ya'll. She's versatile vocally, she can echo jazz greats like Ella and Helen Humes or get raw and gritty like Chaka or take it to church like her idols The Clarke Sisters(speaking of which, she learned almost ALL of her vocal reading through the Clarkes). The sad part is, her released songs doesn't help her and the record company are unfair to her.

With the right kind of producers and materials(I could tell that she's a TRUE jazz fanatic), that heffa would blow a whole block.

This is a good 1 but I'd say Mary J with out a dout. Mary has some unforgetable songs "Real Love" that song was a classic and "All I Need" with Method Man was a Hip-hop classic. I think Faith is good too and a wonderful voice but her songs weren' as good as Mary's. She's the Queen Of Hip-hop Soul with out a dout. On stage she has so much engergy and intensity.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

That´s a good point....Mary has a lot of classics in her catalogue, like "All I Need", "My Life""I Love You","Everything","Reminisce","Slow Down","I Don´t Want To Do Anything"with K-Ci from Jodeci,"Beautiful"etc.etc.etc

Faith had a lot of good songs too, but they´re just not that well known. I like her Keep The Faith album.

I´ve seen MJB in concert and her voice was great, I like the way she sings if it wasn´t for the melisma and screaming. And her hypeman on stage was annoying me.But other than that it was a decent concert.

Haven´t seen Faith yet, but I think she should´ve gotten more support by Puffy or her company or whatever because there´s a lot of potential, as mentioned above by harlepolis.
