I'm talking after Blue Jean. Day In Day Out, Jump (they Say), Heart's Filthy Lesson haven't moved me that much.

I think...

Loving the Alien
This is not America
Absolute Beginners
You Belong in Rock N Roll
Jump They Say
Black Tie White Noise
Hallo Spaceboy
Strangers When We Meet
Little Wonder
Dead Man Walking
Seven Years In Tibet
Thursday's Child
Survive
Slow Burn
New Killer Star

are all amazing songs. and those were just the singles.

I haven't heard most of those songs. I'm not doubting Bowie's talent, I'm a fan. I'm just saying there was a few years I wasn't crazy about what I heard on the radio.

he said (laughing) it was NEVER LET ME DOWN.

Probably he still has nightmares because of Mickey Rourke's rapping... lol

I also go with "Tonight"! smile

Cuz I really like its sound, its atmosphere - though it's dated (as it was mentioned above) - you know I'm an 80s kid. smile
I am a rhythm fanatic and I love Omar Hakim's drumming - especially in "Neighborhood Threat" and "Don't Look Down".

Favourite songs are "Loving The Alien", "Don't Look Down", "Blue Jean" and "Neighborhood Threat".

I don't care much about "God Only Knows" cuz I never liked The Beach Boys... lol
And I prefer the "Lust For Life" version of the song "Tonight" though I love Tina's vocals...

cool

Tonight.

I love his version of "God Only Knows". And it's a lot of fun mimicking Bowie's dance moves from "Loving The Alien" video in front of the mirror.

I do that in 80s clubs too. And I don't even do the Moonwalk anymore, the Bowie moves do it for me these days.

I haven't listened to either one of these albums for a while, so I'm going to have to go from memory. I only really like one song per album (Loving the Alien vs. Time Will Crawl) and I don't really care for Blue Jean much. I'd still have to say that while a lot of Tonight is just boring filler, it's at least listenable. Never Let Me DOwn has all of that Glass Spider nonsense and few purely garbage cuts. I guess I'll have to go with Tonight. Plus, I really like the album cover.

i have to get this off my chest: i've NEVER been a huge fan of "blue jean". a lot of my friends who like bowie but aren't huge fans like me consider this to be sacrilege - "how can you love bowie but not like 'blue jean'?!?" well, let me tell you, it's easy. it got played to death when it came out originally, and i think it's a pretty middle-of-the-road generic hit pop song. it's not a song i hate hearing, but i never am in the mood for it, EVER.

that said, i still absolutely love the (short) video. the screamin' lord byron make-up is all kinds of sexy. i don't mind the straightforward performance video of it, either. it's kinda nice in a "you don't see that every day" kind of way.

nod I'm with you there. I'd much rather listen to Modern Love or even fucking Richochet or Shake It than Blue Jean. The whole song is a boring 1983 retread.

I agree with most of your ratings although I think Criminal World is pretty cool and I much prefer the single version of Cat People.

It's strange but Without You might be my fave from the whole thing.
