How do we know Kanye really said that? Over the years, I have found that most news (or gossip) from UK sites about US artists to be false.

MikeMatronik said: Kanye West 'White People Should Make White Music
Rap sensation KANYE WEST has hit out at white musicians who try to sound black, insisting artists should stick to what they do best. West confesses to a diverse listening taste and is even a fan of British rocker FRANZ FERDINAND. He says, "I hate music where white people are trying to sound black. The white music I like is white. "I like Franz Ferdinand. That's the sh*t." http://femalefirst.co.uk/...942004.htm It's not racist. White people trying to sound black is pathetic which is more regular these days as it sells records. To a lot of white kids, white is not cool and artists know this so they mimic black artists. I think it's taken out of context somewhat though. I think it's more to do with white people who think they're black. [Edited 9/30/05 6:31am]

because she is trying to be something she isnt...she hires that old school lady to "teach her" how to sing soulfully.... come on.....india arie is the anti-britney. I don't know what her ulterior motives are,or if she is trying to sound black.I just like her singing and her CD In this era of no-talent Britneys and J-Los,we definitley need more Joss Stones!

Kanye seems like a big hypocrite to me. He didn't even belong to the stereotypical "black" rap vibe when he was trying to get a record deal. Read this quote from a Time magazine article:
"The first time Kanye West asked the folks at Roc-A-Fella records to let him rap, there was an uncomfortable silence. As a producer, West had churned out hits for Roc-A-Fella's intimidating trio of stars--Jay-Z, Cam'ron and Beanie Siegel--and earned praise for his great ear and tireless ethic. But in 2002 the idea that someone like West could be a successful rapper was faintly absurd. "Kanye wore a pink shirt with the collar sticking up and Gucci loafers," recalls Damon Dash, then Roc-A-Fella CEO. "It was obvious we were not from the same place or cut from the same cloth." It's inevitable...someone who runs their mouth too much, is going to get put in their place eventually.

I'm missing the hypocrisy in this...because he didn't wear saggy jeans...then he's not "hip hop".....remember....Common, The roots..and others are a part of Hip Hop as well.... his arrogant..but this statement isn't hypocritical to me. and I really don't think he said this..... After watching the makin of his Cd...I seriously doubt it. But it keeps up the drama.....

Maybe you have a point, but I wanted you to apologize for your unwarranted insult (though you only went for the noun..LOL). I can't see how I insulted anyone personally, as the context is cleary an aesthetic conceit; not a personal insult. As both Boy George and George Michael are openly gay and the imagery of their music comes off as extremely gay, it seemed approriate. Now if I had called someone on the org "faggy" I could see their reason for being upset. test

So I guess no Rock and Roll, no Soul, no hip hop, no Blues, no jazz, no country, no salsa, no merenge, no samba, no mambo, no pop, no rockabilly shall I go on. Anything with an electric guitar because Charlie Christenson (a black man was the first to have electric guitar in a band setting. Kanye is losing his mind. I still aint gonna buy that CD either. Save your money and buy Little Brother - "The Minstrel Show" or MF Doom and Danger Mouse - Danger Doom instead. If you dont like hip hop buy That new Family Guy DVD about stewie. But screw Kanye!!! he needs 2 shut up and just keep making beats. "Thinking like the Keys on Prince's piano, we'll be just fine"

Every time he opens his mouth, i want to bash his face in. So, people's musical creations should be consigned to specific genres or "sounds" based on their race.? Uh, OK, you bastard. When can we just be humans in the Universe, goddamnit. Why is everything about race. Race is not my most defining characteristic. I don't negotiate music, political views, or philosophy based on race. I hate this bullshit. [Edited 9/25/05 15:22pm] I can not stand him either he is arrogant...I tell you one thing he better enjoy his time at the top because it is going to be a long fall downward afterwards. He is the most ignorant person I have ever encounter I was watching him in an interview and he was trying to be so profound but never answered the interviewer question. Its okay to express your views but he need to have some wisdom when speaking....What a punk!!!!
