Things Off The Chest, Vol. 3 (prospect edit)!!!

Xeroxed from a fellow orger who needs to take credit:

1. Kanye? We get it. You were broke. You survived a car accident. You're famous. You don't always handle fame well but you will still criticize it. Now shut up and produce because you're really a quite ordinary MC.

2. I can't say enough about Billie Holliday. Who can?

3. That Priest cat that got on VH1 Soul called out EVERYBODY on his freestyle. Good for him.

4. I'd give 2005 a solid B for music thus far on the strength of Beck and Common alone.

5. Check out the Little Brother CD. It's pretty "all right."

6. Is it just me, or are country stars poseurs these days? If a guy like me can tell 95% of these so-called "cowboys" are fake, then what do country fans think about them?

7. Hurry up with that Afro-Punk album, Me'Shell.

8. 3 Jazz CD's I'd recommend off the dome? Introducing Wayne Shorter, Know What I Mean? and Quiet Nights.

1. franz ferdinand - i still don't get it.

2. the arcade fire - i kinda get it, but not as much as others seem to.

3. popular music is still in a quagmire, but not in as much of a quagmire as it's been in through the past few years. i think we're good and ready for a full-on freakshow pop music zeitgeist, wherever that's gonna come from.

4. who buys 50 cent albums? i mean, okay, i can understand a few million copies sold, but...okay, better yet...who buys albums by THE GAME?! who ARE these people?! can they be helped???

5. i think ashlee simpson is starting to look like luke wilson, who i think is kinda hot, which makes me wonder if i should think ashlee simpson is turning into a kinda hot guy. this train of thought serves a similar function as a cold shower for me. thanks, ash.

6. sufjan stevens is somewhere between the next beck and the next prince, though to call him "the next" anyone is a bit dismissive.

7. i want to listen to paul mccartney's new album, but i'm a little scared. do you blame me?

8. i wanna listen to kate bush's new record this fall and say "damn" when i'm done listening.

9. i love exene cervenka as a personality, but i'm sorry...i can't handle her voice. john doe, however, sings gorgeously.

10. the funniest pun on a band name i've heard in a long time is my boyfriend's proposed indie rock band name, based on hansel & gretel, "...and you shall know us by the trail of bread".

Quite right on both counts, I think - Exene simply can't hold a tune, John's a genuine talent. once you're through exploring X's catalogue, I'd recommend checking out Doe's excellent solo album "Meet John Doe".

Crunk rap. I'm not a hip hop hater like a lot of the people on this board. I'm hip hop to my heart, but I just don't see what's so fucking entertaining about a bunch of guys screaming and grunting on the mic. They sound like fucking Drill Seargents. I will throw the biggest party when this trend goes away.

Also:

Joss Stone is GREAT. I don't care what anyone else thinks.

Except for the song "reflection", Prince hasn't done anything worth hearing since "the Truth" album.

Ben Stiller is a terrible actor.

Eugene Levy plays the same stupid character in every movie he makes. Whoever told Sam Jackson that it was a good idea to make a movie with him, should be fired, and banned from the business forever.

Mariah Carey never topped "Vision of Love".

Jay-Z and Beyonce should be very, very ashamed of themselves for that "03 Bonnie & Clyde" song. If anything proves that Pac really is dead, it's that song, because he surely would have came out of hiding to bust Jay-Z's ass for that one. Beyonce doesn't know any better, she's a pop singer.

Nu-Metal and Emo also are two trends that need to die already.

Linkin Park is especially bad. And not "bad meaning good".

I've got plenty more, but that's enough for now.
Keep your headphones on.

I heard she just hates playing in front of audiences too. sad Her one and only tour was bashed by critics and I heard that got to her. You know at this rate I'll be just happy to get her album. A tour might asking a little too much from her. giggle

50 Cent, Nas & Jay-Z are currently the undisputed kings of NY.

"Born To Roll" by Masta Ace is a timeless classic!

As the commercial indicates, if Boost Mobile phones never existed, Eve wouldve become a ballet instructor; but since BM phones do exists, Eve became a strip dancer engaging in bisexual activities before becoming a rapper.

90% of hiphop listners probably fantasize about getting shot and surviving like their favorite rappers

Prince is heterosexual and will never come out of the closet - face it, gay people!

Martin Lawrence was funnier when he was on drugs. (sorry, Marty Mar)

If BET can show Gwen Stafani and Justin Timerlake videoes, then why not Joss Stone?

If you dont like what you see on TV or hear on the radio, dont complain about it - just turn the damn off and put on your favorite albums. This goes to all of you bitchy orgers.

Cee-Lo is the future

Is anyone else surprised that they finally put an "old school" non-rapping artist on the cover of Vibe magaine? (Luther Vandross).

I really love Santana, but his new single "I'm Feeling You" with Michelle Branch is a snoozefest.....by-the-numbers pop garbage.

Madonna's new song "Hung Up" is the most commercial single she has released in years.

Now that his latest CD has flopped, does this mean that Babyface is truly over?

I'm tired of Alicia Keyes! mad

It's a shame that Chante Moore's career didn't turn out the way it should have. She is a tremendous talent.

Please...no more celebrity reality shows!!! disbelief

I love VH1 Classic, although they focus WAY too much on the 80s. They need to start showing more concert footage from the 60s and 70s. pout

Sometimes I turn on MTV or TMF and just watch the new videos with this expression on my face: omg

I'm starting to worry that I don't like funk music as much as I used to. eek Maybe I'm just bored with it at the moment. I hope that's the case.

That said, I think Rick James is overrated. shrug He just gets on my last nerve!

I actually don't mind watching "Newlyweds" (Jessica Simpson show) lol She doesn't annoy me HALF as much as her sister does. stab

I always forget that this is a Prince site. lol I haven't listened to him in ages actually.

I have never listened to Outkast's "Speakerboxxx" album. lol I have it, but I still haven't listened to it. biggrin I think I will tonight thouuh....

I will never understand the appeal of Madonna. Never. Maybe in the beginning of her career, but now now.

I can't believe I have never seen Depeche Mode live. disbelief They are one of my favorite bands, and I just have never seen them. sigh

well, she IS a soul singer, whether you and i think she's a particularly good one being beside the point. a song is a song. if it's arranged/sung soulfully, then it's a soul song. although i do agree she tries way too hard to sound soulful. she'd probably be a better soul singer X 10 if she would just lay off a little. i think she has it in her. but either she thinks, or somebody's telling her, that she needs to "soul it up" a little to sell the whole "serious soul singer" thing to establish cred. to me, it's backfiring, but apparently it's working with everybody else.

-Roger Waters' solo work is criminally underrated.

-SST is more of the same generic Prince that we had on Musicology.

-Neo Soul artists are fucking boring.

-Artists who take five years or more to release a new album are annoying. Get in the studio already!

-With Teeth was a huge disappointment after The Fragile. This is what took years to release?!

-Stevie's new album is already doomed by the delays.

-Radiohead is one of the only new artists who are brilliant and intriguing. I can't wait for the next album.

-Kanye is not that great, but he's a damn good producer.

-Popular music shows no signs of improving in the least, and that pisses me off.

-Is there anything bad enough that 50 Cent could release that wouldn't become a hit today? And how sad is that?

-I still hate Larry Graham. A lot.

-I can't believe MJ's already planning to do something mainstream. What a joke.

-I'm sick to death of Beyonce and Usher being treated like geniuses. They both S-U-C-K!

-There's nothing special about Joss Stone...at all.

-I wish Jeff Buckley was still alive. Grace still sounds awesome.

agree and agree.

in fact, i'm sort of beginning to have this sneaking suspicion that funk itself is overrated, even by me.

so much of it is pandering. it's like disco with a deeper groove. so much of it says so little. it's hardly songwriting at its finest. it's basically party music. and don't even get me started on the people around here with the "if it's not funk(y), it's crap" attitude.

then again, it has its moments. and its artists. and it can be damn good for what it does biggrin

so maybe it's just some sort of temporary insanity i'm/we're feeling at the moment biggrin

My feelings are most likely just backlash from many friends I have who are those types you are talking about: if it's not funky, it's crap. err

I swear, when I hear people actually say things like that, I feel like punch
