Some Grammy News sort of Was just talking to a Rep at UNIVERSAL and they said since the Cut-off for Grammy Noms is October 1st, the Stevie Wonder CD was being offered to ITUNES on 9/27 since technically this counts as a Release. Universal feels strong that even if the CD is not a commercial blockbuster, Stevies Name will garner alot of Nominations. With that in Mind heres a Few thoughts on who I think will get Noms this year.
Also I totally DISAGREE with the way the Grammys does things lately, they feel they have to Nominate 1 CD from every Genre in the Best ALbum category, this is Nonsense since 99% of the times they end up nominating albums that shouldnt be considered in the Album of the year category. Here are the Artist I think U will see KANYE WEST BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN (odds are an Album of the Year Nom) U2 (missed the cut off last year for ALbum but this year they should get one) MARIAH CAREY (she will get some noms, hopefully not for ALbum of the Year) JOSS STONE Neil Youn (look out for this one, just gets in under the wire like Stevie) Stevie WOnder Ryan Adams AMERIE (sorry but as far as RB females, she has too, plus she is good) Destinys Child (not deserving this time, but its the end of the road, tears!) BON JOVI( 20 years later, the Grammies finally have given them noms) COLDPLAY ( same as u2) PAUL McCARTNEY (its time for an Album of the Year nom) BLACK EYED PEAS (because they are safe) SHAKIRA (not only in the latin category, i think its time for more) GREEN DAY (still carrying over from last year) LeeLa James (deserves it) ROLLING STONES ( Im not sure, but have they ever gotten one??) BARBRA S (doesnt she always) Dave Matthews Im sure Im forgetting something but thats usually the way the Grammies goes. Hopefully the Grammies will GO WITH whats a Good Album and not being POPULAR thats what the AMA's or the VMA's are for. Just look at the top Nominees for the AMA's (Mariah, Destiny, Jessica, Kelly Clarkson) case closed. Based on the list above, I think Green Day should win album of the year.
The Stones, McCartney and Coldplay all put out solid albums, but IMHO American Idiot is the best as far as solid songs go. Having said that, as long as Mariah and Kanye don't win album of the year, I'll be satisfied. The rest on the list don't deserve it either. | |
