Dire Straits Appreciation Thread Okay folks, time to go back in time.
Dire Straits was - if you like that term - my "band of the youth". i discovered them in late '97 when i was 15 and really got hooked. (Up to that moment I was listening to the music of Rammstein as well as some other metal artists.) During 1998 i collected all of their official releases and listened to nothing else. (not imaginable any more). Today it is their first album which is my favourite one. I have got some problems with Brothers in Arms (and the following Studio and the On the Night album now), but their debut is stunning and sounds still fresh and crispy. Dire Straits (1978): their debut and my favourite album, not only of the dire straits. nearly every song is a classic. this is honest rock music. favourite moments - well possibly the whole album...: - sultans of swing - in the gallery - down to the waterline - wild west end - lions - ... Communique (1979) comes close to it, but it lacks a little of the legendary. It's like Falcos Einzelhaft and Junge Roemer (both produced by Robert Ponger). Love them both, but Einzelhaft has a "little more". Favourite songs: - once upon a time in the west (check out the live version on alchemy!) - single handed sailor Making Movies (1980) marked one turning point in their carreer, since there was a keyboarder engaged. The music lost the "swing" from the earlier works, but here we had some fine ballads, special favourites: - expresso love - romeo and juliet Love Over Gold (1982) ist a sometimes moody, superb album, the highlight is definitly the 15 minute long Telegraph Road (though i like the alchmey version a little bit more). Mark is a great guitarist. Their first album is brilliant. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him." http://ccoshea19.googlepa...ssanctuary http://ccoshea19.googlepages.com | |
