Oh. My. Effing. GOD!!!!! I don't know where to start. I LOVE 'King Of The Mountain'!!! It's almost worth the 12 year wait. Absolutely stunning. Cloudbuster & Jon Snow's descriptions were very accurate. It sort of reminds me of 'The Sensual World' meets Massive Attack's 'Teardrop'. I felt like I was gliding through air, past icebergs when I was listening to it (if that doesn't sound completely crazy). It is so atmospheric and glacial. Only the other day I was watching one of her videos - I can't remember which one - and I was thinking how much I love the synth backdrops and hoped she'd re-introduce them. She's only gone and done it with a 2005 twist! I'm quite surprised by her vocal register - she sounds a little deeper than usual - but I'm very pleased with the results. And the bass/wind noises after the second 'The Wind Is Whistling' section I could go on and on and on. She is BACK! I must have listened to the song about 5 or 6 times last night - I definitely agree that it's a grower - and even by the last listen, I had tears brimming in my eyes. So beautiful. Even this morning - I had to get a listen in before I went to work - I had goosepimples. I guess you can tell I like it. Anyway, apologies if I've gone on a bit but I hope everyone's enjoying it as much as me. I'm very excited for the new album.

To those that have heard this...
What do you think of the use of live drums? I have to admit that, upon first listen, I was a little Somebody mentioned on another thread recently how they disliked the use of drum machines on much of her 80's work and longed for her to use real percussion instead. At first, I was yearning for that dense, heavy drum beat she's used but, now, I'm glad it uses real drums. It's like she really has updated her sound for the present day. I just hope the rest of the album is as intoxicating and enthralling as this.

What do you think of the use of live drums? Sonically it reminds me of Radiohead at their best, so I'm loving her new direction.

Probably org note you as this thread may have died by the time Yout' gets back to me Youth Produced 'Together Alone' Haven't heard the single yet believe it or not, as I've been so damned busy with family and looking for a new job, but I'm in no rush after 12 years, as I know it will be excellent - I shall go an listen to the stream now while I'm afforded the time to do so... Youth bio: In 1978 Youth co-founded and played bass for Killing Joke, an infamous post-punk band. Killing Joke has been heralded as the band which birthed aggressive rock music, with public tributes from many of the greats, including Nirvana, Metallica, and Nine Inch Nails. The band experimented with a fusion of tribal rhythms, dub bass-lines & disco beats with loud guitar noise. Killing Joke also became known, and celebrated in underground culture, for their use of black humour to expose the hypocrisies in politics and society. Leaving the band in 1982, Youth concentrated on solo projects. These included The Empty Quarter and Brilliant with Jimi Cauty, as well as playing bass, his primal passion, on Kate Bush's classic 'Hounds of Love' album. In 1986 he teamed up with the Killing Joke drum roadie, Dr Alex Paterson, to form a partnership which would evolve into The Orb. During a brief period of collaboration, Youth produced and co-wrote on their first two albums, including "Little Fluffy Clouds", one of the band’s most famous releases. The Orb was celebrated for bringing ambient music to the mainstream by adding a variety of samples and rhythmic beats to create a new danceable music genre. Dance music has always been one Youth's passions; after working with artists Coldcut, Yazz, Fine Young Cannibals, James, Blue Pearl and Transglobal Underground, Youth went on to establish his own recording studio, Butterfly Studios in Brixton, London and the first dedicated trance label Dragonfly Records in 1991. Dragonfly Records is still the most respected and long standing trance label.Dragonfly has expanded to include 2 sister labels, Liquid Sound Design and Kamaflage. Youth rejoined Killing Joke in 1992 to produce two internationally successful albums. He then went on to collaborate with fellow band founder Jaz Coleman, writing and producing symphonic versions of Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin classics, performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra - both of which were nominated for Grammy Awards. In 1998 Youth collaborated with his friend Paul McCartney on The Fireman, creating two ambient albums, 'Strawberries, Oceans, Ships & Fields' and 'Rushes'. This was followed in 2000 by the Grammy Award nominated Liverpool Sound Collage album. In his 2002 biography of Paul McCartney, Ian Peel devotes a substantial amount of the book to these collaborations, he states that the inspiration received from working together "makes Youth McCartney’s most important collaborator in this area since John Lennon". Widely recognised in the industry as a Super-Producer, Youth’s most notorious triumph was the production of The Verve album, 'Urban Hymns', which topped the UK album charts, containing a number 1 single and 2 top 10 hits, including the anthemic single, 'Bittersweet Symphony'. The album won the UK’s 1998 BRIT Award for Best Album, while Youth himself won the Producer of the Year award, after being nominated three times previously. Until now, Youth has remained something of an enigma. Yet in private, Youth is an active member of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, with a very diverse interest in mysticism and natural magic. He founded The Society for the Reformation of Ancient Enchantment, with members ranging from writers Paul Deveraux and Brian Barritt, artist Rufus Knight-Webb and the KLF’s Jimi Cauty to free-thinking activist Fraser Clark. The Society is a gateway for bringing magic, inspiration and celebration into the public arena, via live events and presentations of its members’ artistry. Youth has always advocated the sharing of insight, and sees it as a human gift to which all people are entitled. At this time he is re-launching his solo career after the successes of albums 'Youth In Dub I & II' (released in 2003 & 2004), is about to unleash 'Calibrate Your Intuition' on October 1st 2005, as well as the publication of Poetica Mystica - an anthology of his poems & illustrations. latest/current projects: Britney Spears Title Tbc (still unsure of Youth's involvement with this - just heard rumours) Embrace Forthcoming Title Tbc - Independiente (Produced) Vega 4 'Love Is The Music' - Taste Media (Produced) The Music 'Come What May' - Virgin (Produced) Missy Higgins Forthcoming Title Tbc - Virgin (Co Writer) Howie Day 'Stop All The World Now' - Sony (US) (Produced) Marilyn Manson 'Mobscene' - Interscope (Add. Production / Remix) Dido 'Don't Think Of Me' - BMG (Production) Apologies for raping this page - we now return you to your normal programing.

Thanks for that - I had NO idea Youth was in The Orb! ('Little Fluffy Clouds' ). And forgotten he'd worked with McCartney. He's certainly had an interesting career. That mention of Blue Pearl takes me back years: I remember being in my parents' house and 'Naked In The Rain' playing on the television. Suddenly my father - who hates anything 'modern', i.e. post-1863 - started whistling it! It was definitely one of those Embarrassing Parent Moments. Hope the job hunting is going well, buddy. When you get chance to listen to Kate, let us know what you think.. [Edited 9/22/05 5:12am]
