lewis II Whoa!!This man is ...funky.He sings beautifully, plays beautifuully....love how he mixes styles. This cd is plain awesome!"never be my woman" is a lost d'angelo track, the bass on "i'm on the floor" floors me!! He plays like a Bootsy riff ,but in the context of an r&b song!!Oh,man. His vocals are stunning. This cd is better than his first one.I am waiting on some more of hist stuff to come in. I hate to add to all the Lewis posts ,but y'all don't know what you're missing if'n you don't own these. "you make me wanna" is ..strange and funky and badass!!Great playing on that!!Check his ballads out, too.I tell you that if you like Marvin and Prince et al ,you will dig this cat.He is really top notch. Yeah, thanx to psykosoul, and paligap, many more on here have been hip to Lewis. Don't worry, folks aren't sleeping on him. I've been hip to him for awhile, have all of his shit. He has good influences and he knows what to do with them. Plus, he's not afraid of wearing them on his sleeve. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I love Lewis to death but I stopped using Prince and Marvin to give folks an idea of what to expect. That's a pretty "safe" comparison for the musicianship of the first two albums but The Stoned and Limited Edition series sound nothing like Prince. This guys digs into Todd Rundgren, Brian Wilson, Pink Floyd, Stevie and combines 'em all into his own persona! And don't stop with the Lewis posts. This dude needs and DESERVES all the exposure he can get.

Yes, he's good. This is about 5 years old though, and he's done about 3 albums since. Unfortunately each one gets more "techno" as they go on, and the lastest one it utter shit.

sorry I'm late, bgz!! Man, like psyko says, Keep the raves comin!! Lewis needs to be heard by mo' people!! He's the most supremely talented musician I've heard in a long time. There are certainly other talented young cats out there, but few with this kind of scope... On one hand, being independent means he doesn't get wide promotion, but on the other hand, he's not bound by what labels think will sell...so he's not forced into one mold or the other...that was the problem Island had with his first records; they claimed they weren't sure how to market him: too psychedelic for "R&B" radio, too funky for "pop" and "rock" stations... ... The latest ones are "The Lost Album" and "Limited 2004".... "Stoned Part II" (the Techno album, I'm assuming that's the one you mean) came out a few months before those, but that was just a project he said he wanted to try.... In a 2002 radio interview, he mentoned that he wanted to try a club oriented album as one of his future projects, just to see if he could pull it off, but I don't think it should be used to determine which way he's headed...I mean, all three of those albums came out a matter of months apart, and they all go in completely different directions: "The Lost album" is more in the Pyschedelic Pop Rock vein, Todd Rundgren's NAZZ and 10cc meets Brian Wilson; Limited 2004 is a wide grab bag of styles, Shuggie Otis Meets Stevie, D'angelo, Joe Zawinul and Pink Floyd, ...and the Techno-influenced Stoned Part II was just one more different outlet... ...an' he does all this shit by himself, in his basement, yet IMO, it sounds more professional than most Pop/R&B albums of the last decade... ... Props to psykosoul and especially paligap for pulling my coat on this cat.
Another case of it being criminal that this guy is not more well known as talented as he is. Alan Evans from Soulive has it nailed when he has as his website's mission... Yeah, it's really a problem as far as retail stores are concerned, even with the new US release of Stoned. Online, Dusty Groove is one of the few places that carries all of his releases. His stuff's on Amazon, too, but some of the import versions can be pretty expensive... ... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout
