Whatever. Jakob Dylan sings his ass off on that track. I dig the Wallflowers. Speaking of things that are going to give you a headache, actually this one may give you an aneurysm. Ok, I don't like it as much as the original version, but... Hootie & the Blowfish... do a killer job... on "Hey Hey, What Can I Do." It's a jungle out there.

I haven't heard their version of course, but I can only imagine, although it IS a great song. One of my very favorites in fact. Speaking of "Hey, Hey What Can I Do", Robert Plant did this one in concert in July, and normally I am a very relaxed and nonchalant concert-goer, but when I heard the first few notes of this one, I just about lost my mind. You'd know "Another Brick in the Wall (part 2)" if you heard it. You'd have to have been living in a cave all your life not to have. Yeah, I know a lot of them if I hear them somewhere, but I just can never tell the title or whether it's Pink Floyd or not. I guess in the 90s when I was a teenager and still going through all the classic rock albums there was a period when Pink Floyd really wasn't considered that essential, so I never got around to listen to any of the the albums. I'm in complete void with some of the classic rock acts. Led Zep to a certain degree as well.

The Beatles were probably the most innovative group ever (though my favorite band will always be The Rolling Stones),with an amazing body of work . ABBA made some brilliant pop confections (all surface...but what a surface). Rod Stewart is a bore now, but at the peak of his powers, say 1970-1979 , solo and with the Faces, he was amazing (check out his "Every picture Tells a Story" CD, or get a Best-Of The Faces, He could rock out with the best, or sing soul, and even folky type stuff. And Elvis might be one of the greatest singers ever (I'd rank him up there with Aretha, Sinatra, Ray Charles, and Marvin Gaye) #SOCIETYDEFINESU

I actually got tears in my eyes in fact. Don't sleep on Hootie. I know that it's cool to Hootie-bash, but I always thought that they were a solid band. Not great, but good. They play straight-up pop-rock, and they ignore whatever happens to be trendy at the time. And Darius Rucker is actually a really soulful singer (check his solo album). I dig them, and the funny thing about the "Hey Hey What Can I Do" cover is that although they don't really change anything about the song, it sounds just like a Hootie song. If there were someone who didn't know the original, they would never guess that it was a cover. "Hey Hey" is one of Zeppelin's few just straight up pop-rock songs, maybe a little folky, but extremely straightforward, kinda like the stuff Hootie does. I'll send the cover to you in my next installment. @ you getting tears in your eyes. I can understand that, though. The first time I ever saw Prince on stage, my eyes got misty. And then when he played "Purple Rain," it happened again. And it's not like that's even my favorite Prince song, but it's just so powerful and emotional that it hit me. When I first saw B.B. King strap Lucille on and start wailing. And again when I met him. When I met George Jones, and again when he started singing "He Stopped Loving Her Today," which like "Purple Rain" at the Prince concert, is not my favorite Jones song, but it's just so emotionally powerful. I never actually fully cried at any of these times, but my eyes did get misty. I guess it's normal if you love something that much, and that's how I get with music. I don't just listen to it. I sleep, eat, and breathe it. I immerse myself in it. Kinda like you with Zeppelin. It's a jungle out there.

I didn't just jump on the cool-to-bash-Hootie bandwagon just yesterday you know. I just have never liked Darius Rucker's voice, from what I've heard of them. Also, my cousin dated one of the band members a long time ago, so that's what always comes to mind when I think of Hootie and the Blowfish. I would like to hear their version of "Hey, Hey..." though. And I MAY have, just may have once or twice got misty from seeing Prince live. Also during "Purple Rain". Never listened to/explored: Tori Amos I wouldn't consider Tori to be classic just yet. She's definitely worth checking out though.....as you can tell from the amount of Tori threads on here. I used to think Tori was special, but her last 3 or 4 albums aren't really all that! She sold a part of her soul to commerciality, luckily she is slowly rediscovering her sound "Time is a train, makes the future the past"
