MJ fans demonstrate!! What the F**K?? Have you guys seen this story on 'Dotmusic'. check it out:
A group of Michael Jackson fans calling themselves MJ Unity plan to hold a peaceful demonstration outside Sony's New York headquarters against what they see as a deliberate lack of promotion. The group will gather outside the Sony Music Entertainment complex in New York at 12.30PM on July 6 whilst around the world, similar protests will take place in the UK, Europe and Latin America. In a statement released to press, the group announces: "Our common bond is we are music lovers and Michael Jackson fans who will not tolerate Sony Music's handling of 'Invincible' and Mr Jackson's career." "We have been loyal consumers and have supported Sony Music with our hard-earned money for more than a decade." 'The group argue that Sony have not produced any of Jackson's "signature big budget videos and there has been little push from Sony Music to radio despite demand." Crucially, they argue that this apparently illogical approach to marketing an artist stems from a more sinister root. They claim that Sony wishes to acquire sole ownership of Jackson's ATV music catalogue, which numbers amongst its publishing rights music by The Beatles. The suggestion is that the label is attempting to prohibit Jackson from recouping the costs of producing 'Invincible' in order to ensure that he is not in a fit position to quit the label, taking with him the huge income that Sony makes from its 50 percent share of the ATV catalogue. Amongst the evidence with which they claim to support this interpretation of events is upheld the delayed and then indefinitely postponed commercial release of the single 'Butterflies' and so-called "mysterious" removal of 'Heavan Can Wait' from Sony's release schedule. They also point to cancelled public appearances like Jackson's scheduled slot at the 2002 Grammy Award which was filled at the last minute by India.Aire. Referring to this incident it is said: "Sources claim that Michael Jackson refused to perform as he was pressured into performing old songs only."' I don't know what they are talking about! the MJ album got tons of press including TV ads, Radio previews, radio play...the full works. Sony invested millions in that album, its the most expensive record ever made for gods sake! I don't understand why they would purposely sink it! The reason why they have pulled future singles is due to the further costs they would suffer from promoting singles that don't even make the top 20! Imagine if P fans had done the same! We might have a better case due to the limited promotion P's Cds have recieved. The MJ album sank due to the fact it took so long to make that it fell out of sync with the 'times'. Oh.. and also it was bland pants!!

I do feel that those MJ fans demonstrating and ish is str8 wack!
BUT I'M sick of people dissen Mike...I love his music...he sings really well, he's innovative and there's songs on Invincible that I did not expect from Mike...like the one wit Santana, and T.R. And Butterflies is r&b---not his usual type of song. He writes catchy songs that are great to dance too and have fun listening too without getting a headache from tryna figure out what his message is. And again, you can't compare mike and prince, they are both great in their own right. wo completely different artists.

I love MJ but in my opinion this album wasn't his best.

I'm sorry but Invincible was just asking for problems with a title like that! I mean MJ's last album was produced by the guys who made the Spice Girls last Flop album! I would of thought alarm bells would of started ringing then!!! MJ has been the jewel in Sony's crown since they bought up CBS in the late 80's. But they bought someone who's best was behind them, much like EMI did with Mariah. If anything, this goes to prove that a MOR album can still stiff no matter how many TV spots, radio previews, MTV specials and expensive videos you throw at it. I knew things had gone bad when the statues were floated down the river:roll: Its sad to see that one of the most consistent artist of the 80's has come to this! A sad surgically altered egotist with about as much appeal as a child molester (ooops..)

MJ fans keep on blaming Sony for not promoting 'Invincible' enough, but I think that much of the blame lies with Michael. He is the one who didn't make a video for "Butterflies",even though radio was playing that song like crazy. He could have done a slew of TV appearances the week of the albums's release. He could have launched a huge world tour.
Instead,he sat back and chose to be lazy.He obviously felt that,as the "King Of Pop",he shouldn't have to work his ass off to promote an album. He's finally finding out that, there are no guarantees in pop music,no matter how much success you had in the past. He needs to ask Madonna for advice on how to effectively promote and market an album.

I agree DavidEye. Plus, this new artists movement he's started with the help of Al Sharpton and Johnny Cochran is just self-serving. If he really cared for artists' rights, why is he only speaking about it now? And why not just join the Recording Artists Coalition (RAC), instead of starting your own movement?

Exactly! Notice how MJ starts this new "war" only after HIS own album doesn't do that well.I wonder,if 'Invincible' had sold 15 million copies, would Michael even be complaining? Would he even be concerned about other artists who are done wrong by record companies?
Don't get me wrong, some artists really do have legitmate gripes against the record companies. It's just that,in Michael's case, the timing is suspect, imo.

I didn't exactly see Prince start complaining when Purple Rain hit, either ---------
