Good point. I guess i just dump everything i listen to on here because iam bored. Plus its nice to maybe see if anyone knows what the fuck iam talking about.

But popular music is the hardest to make. And when i see cyndi fucking lauper getting good props, why no tiffany?

You really have to be joking. It takes no talent at all for a producer to study trends and copy them. To write lame lyrics to a poppy beat, and have a producer basically manufacture the whole thing in the studio? That is like claiming that it is harder to make a McDonald's burger than a filet mingon!

Oh, and I'll take Cyndi Lauper over Tiffany any day. At least Lauper's stuff had some personality.

mad ? In my band, we play rock so easily. But then, we play crap.

Good points.

I understand the tween thing. But hey, couldn't u say somethign credible like radiohead or coldplay are just aimed at dropout depressed losers?

Dont pigeonhole the music mad

Also, it ain't the lyrics that grab me, its the melody and production.

First off, I don't agree that Coldplay or Radiohead are aimed at "dropout depressed losers". In fact, I don't know a single person who listens to their music who is a dropout, is remotely depressed, or a loser.

Second, I'm not pigeonholing music, but I don't consider this stuff to really be music. Its product, concocted by record industry execs and "hot" producers. Tiffany had no hand in actually creating this "music" (and she herself has said she was basically just a studio puppet in those days, and that she didn't really become an artist in the true sense of the word until 2000's Colour of Silence).

As for the melodies, they are cookie-cutter. The production? Hey, its slick, but it isn't inventive.

Its fine if you like this stuff, but to try to claim that all this new jack swing shit is really "art", or "underrated", is a stretch. I could respect this a whole lot more if you were just claiming these as guilty pleasures. I've got plenty of things I like that I know are crap, but I'm not going to try and defend it as real "art".

Im so not trying to start a fight, after what you said jedimaster, cause Im somewhere in between this debate...

But Ive just had a thought - why is it that this type of music, you know, your "manufactured" pop, is never respected by the masses when there is a huge number of people out there who love it and thrive off it? Is it because theyve sold out? How have they sold out though, when all they wanted to do was sing songs? I mean, when did pop change from the credible Beatles to...Steps? When did we forget about the sound of the songs, and the nice tunes?

I dont knoww if I explained my point very well, but what do you guys think? It just occured to me. I know we have music snobs (over here!), but why??? when did certain sounds, voices, lyrics become unfashionable? Because at the end of the day thats all they are.

I think the food analogy works well. Plenty of people eat at Mickey D's every day, and lots of folks really like it even, but would anyone claim that it is fine, nutritious food? Can anyone really say that Taco Bell supplies better food than that sweet Mexican lady down the street who was always bringing her homemade tacos over? I think you see where I'm going with this.

It is not to say that SOME pop can be quite nice, but the vast majority of it wouldn't be as nourishing, or as satifying, as a piece of ultra-sweet candy. No substance whatsoever, and no real value to it beyond the sweetness. Most little kids would love to eat nothing but candy, but the average adult knows that stuff is, ultimately, just a bunch of junk.

Yeah that is a good analogy, honestly. (and i do eat alot of junk food and sweets lol , heck i even like barney)

So yeah, mentally and musically, iam a kid. I just like to dance, and hear simple escaspism stuff. I dont want to hear someone elses take on problems. Thats just me these days though. Plus i like to dance.

I can write and read music now, but i just dont get serious music anymore, i just dont need music as much in my life anymore.

Cool. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever. Just remember, you need to eat your leafy greens from time to time!
