Why are Prince.orgers taste so commercial?

I am getting tired of seeing all these commercial picks for music artists that are promoted on here. I would think Prince fans would be more eclectic. I think we need to get a bit more deep in here.

Donna Summer? Come on folks, we can get higher.

Donna Summer's good. So what? shrug

And not like Prince is the most underground act going.

I think there's a wide range of taste here, and that's what makes it interesting.

That's the kind of music that's available to the masses right now. Not a lot of cool stuff to choose from on TV or the radio.

I think many here have very ecclectic tastes. But at the same time...I mean most of us are Prince Fans..so you are going to get a lot of mainstream threads, as Prince is still considered Pop/R&B and is featured in Mainstream press.

I have seen many threads about all kinds of artists...

Bjork
Tori
Beck
New Order
Martina Topley Bird
Radio Head
Siouxsie

to name a few. Maybe that proves your point. I've started threads about bands that no one knows...and those sink like the Titanic.

I think you get both ends of the spectrum here. Besides if the artist is too eclectic or not well known, no one knows or cares about who the heck you're talking about and like Superspaceboy said, they tank. I still can't believe no one is familiar with Sinclair but hey we can talk about Donna Summer all day.

Hey now, I'm with you! I've learned so much around here because my mind is open enough to learn.

Yeah, there's commercial youngins around here but everyone comes around when everything they listen to tastes like vanilla. It's a progression and if they don't who cares, it's called growth.

heh heh. You said "posted a sticky".

The question is why am I so bored today that I'm trying to find double entendres in everything?

i've made threads about sufjan stevens. they may have died early but, hey, you could have jumped on in. i've made posts about sigur ros. they do ok for a day or so and then fade away. i've made threads very recently about bloc party and louis XIV. gone from the first page already. self, velvetron, and broken social scene have also been topics of mine. there have been lots and lots of threads/post about bands that fall under the radar...and therein lies the problem. all of this is just from myself, alone. there are plenty of others here who are far more informed on unknown bands and they frequently post on such.

maybe you need to be more active on those threads and create some of your own rather than whinging about others' musical preferences. shrug

Not like those artists are the biggest blockbusters out there though. And, they're good. So let's keep talking about 'em.
