I'm not the biggest Duran fan, but compare them to later boy bands. They played, wrote, sang, and created style. They were good enough to play in "all star" bands like Power Station or session style stuff with Robert Palmer.

Okay, they didn't dance in unison, and they weren't in as good of shape...
