No Daddy

WTF is this shit?!?!? I can't believe this song got recorded, much less released as a video on BET!!! Oh wait, yes I can. In the clip, the girl (who can't be over 18) muffs the teacher and walks out of class to go hang out with her fast ass friends on the street. Her reason: "I ain't have no daddy." WHAT THE FUCK!?!? This is the worse. Jigga should be ashamed of promoting that bullshit. Definitely lost points with me. Has anyone else seen this. What do ya'll think?

[Chorus:]
I didn't have no daddy around when I was growing up (huh)
That's why I'm wild and I don't give a (huh)
Ya'll think cuz these jeans fit, I would give it up
Don't let my cute face fool ya
I didn't have no daddy around when I was growing up (huh)
That's why I'm wild and I don't give a (huh)
Ya'll think cuz these jeans fit, I would give it up

[Verse 1:]
Been through so much in my life
Seen things in my life
That I never thought I'd make it through
Had a few close calls in my life
That could have ended my life
But I'm here looking at you
Never thought that I'd be here
I'm the type that don't give a damn about rules
I was forced to survive on the streets
Make my own way to eat
Gotta do what I gotta do (Best believe)

[Hook:]
I know plenty of girls like me
That done been through hell just like me
Keep what your mama teach ya
Don't let cheat or deceit defeat ya (Girlfriend)
And all my kickass girls like me
That ain't ever afraid to speak
Next time that they try to treat ya
Like you a freak cuz you street and look good
Tell them

[Chorus:]
I didn't have no daddy around when I was growing up (huh)

[Verse 2:]
No I don't strip in the club
Nor trick in the club
But I got friends that do
So my girls that's getting the dough
The best way they know
Don't hate girl I got you
Even though it ain't me (I understand)
That its real in these streets (I understand)
When it comes to that rent, that whip
That check, ain't nobody gonna protect your neck like you

[Hook:]
I know plenty of girls like me

[Bridge:]
All, all my girls from a broken home
When you're feeling all alone

I thought I was pretty up front, but here it is in a nutshell. First off, the chickenhead in the video straight assaults the teacher for him doing his job, then storms out. Seocondly, what is she doing in the streets? She ain't got no daddy, but I'm sure her mama would be interested in learning of her daughter's behavior (unless of course mom's is a triflin' bitch too). And honestly, to blame her lack of a father for not giving a damn about rules or having to survive on the streets is *say it with me* TRIFLING!!!! Next up is the fact that TM was given a platform to speak for her gender AND generation, and this is the best you could come with? Thousands of young Black girls are coming away from this with the idea that this type o' shit is cool. It's not. I've already read of two people on this thread that can "relate". HOW?!?! This song could've been so much stronger without all backtalkin' and fast ass attitude. And lastly, I LOVE "Papa Was A Rolling Stone". Don't get it twisted, I am pro-Daddy. But to compare a grown ass man talking 'bout how his pops wasn't around and feeling sad and angry about it, to this lil' half dead, non-singin', weave wearin' trick is just nuts. The Temps didn't run out and start shit because they daddy wasn't at home. He was reflecting and conversing with his Mother. This heffa is just quick to say I BEHAVE LIKE THIS BECAUSE MY DADDY AIN"T HURRR. Obviously there's more to it than that. OK so, big nutshell I know, but that's how I feel.

nod Agreed. This song is straight ignorant and ghetto fabalous. As an educator, its bad enough when you have to deal with fast asses troubled girls like this day in day out. I know one thing for sure, I sure a hell don't want to see a video about a fast hussy with issues. They need to take this shit off the air pronto. BET needs to be pimp2 slapped & fishslap for airing this nonesense.

I didn't see the video, but just based on the lyrics I see nothing wrong with the song being recorded. Did she write this song? have input on the video? Theres some feeling in those words no matter how disguiting she presented herself. How sad. Somebody in the pop culture needs to articulate those issues concernig young Black woman, too bad its not BET.

The video sounds horrendous but the lyrics are OK. It's actually sort of anthropological when you read it.

I can see why Jay-Z would be behind this. You guys should hear "Where Have You Been" from the Dynasty album (same album with "Give It 2 Me" feat. Pharrell whistle I'm a hustler baby; I just want you to know..) with its revealing message about absent fathers.

well i'm sorry u feel that way, but u know why i think its a good song and has a great message? its cuz ALOT of girls feel that way, not just blk but girls in general. alot of girls feel like shit and therefore do alot of shit with one of the reasons bein they had no daddy. to alot of girls father figures are VERY important, thats also why many women have a daddy complex when lookin for a man. either noone is as good as their daddy, or they want a man to be their daddy.
i think the song is beautiful cuz its also givin a message, like this part

I know plenty of girls like me

Don't be sorry. You're right, I don't like it. But everyone has got their own thing thing. The above lyrics you quoted could have been the foundation for the whole song (alas it is still just a song), but she had to answer the question, "What's really hood?". I'm all about self respect, but when you lace it with BULLSHIT, kick rocks. Why aren't females writing about the feelings you noted at the top? Nevermind. Too "intelligent" for BET.

but read the lyrics. really. the WHOLE song is like that, exept for the one line "thats why i'm wild and i dont give a huh" other than that, the whole song is very moving. and she is (aside from that one line) writin about the feelings in that quote. thats the basis of the whole song.

she telling us she been thru shit but that she aint let it defeat her, so dont let it defeat u. she sayin just cuz i'm cute and wear tight clothes dont think she's easy. she sayin do what u feel u gotta do to survive and dont let noone make u feel like shit. thats what she sayin.

aside from that one line that IS the basis of the whole song, theres only one "bullshit" line in the whole song. has nothin to do with too inteligent for bet, take out that line and it is a very moving, intelligent song. but i respect ur opinion so now i'ma leave it alone

Good Lord. How sad is it that someone had to explain what is wrong with the song and video.

I can't stand Jay Z and I predict that he will run the record company into the ground in record time. He has not talent and know we know he can't judge talent in other artist.
