Madonna and photographer/filmmaker David LaChapelle won't be teaming up on the video for her single 'Hung Up.' The pair confirmed to us yesterday that 'artistic differences' foiled the collaboration.
Just Wednesday, at an H&M/Interview party for his film 'Romeo and Juliet,' LaChapelle told us, 'It's going to be major. It's just the hottest Madonna song.'
Yesterday, his rep explained that LaChapelle 'wanted to approach the video in a documentary style, like he did in 'Rize' [his movie about ghetto dancers]. Madonna didn't see it the same way.''
Some claimed both talents turned diva. 'Madonna had to control every little thing,' said one tipster. 'She wanted to be shot so she looked very young.'
The 47-year-old goddess certainly looks youthful on the Steven Klein-shot cover of her new CD, 'Confessions From the Dance Floor.'
But her rep, Liz Rosenberg, insists Madonna bears no grudge against LaChapelle: 'She loves him and said she would work with him again in a minute.'

eh...dont really know if i would have gone for the documentary style treatment. It might have worked, but it doesnt seem very Madonnaish. It does sound like Madonna to want to control every little thing. She shouldnt have too much trouble finding a director though. She can always call Jonas Akerland or John Baptiste Mondino, tho I'd really love to see her go back to working with Mark Romanek(Rain, Bedtime Stories)

A few fansites are reporting that Madonna has already found a new director. It will be Johan Renck, who directed her "Nothing Really Matters" video.

That's a surprisingly good and refreshing image for a Madonna album cover. But the new Synapscape beats it to death musically, I'm sure. nod

from Madonnamad.com
Thanks Matt

Friend of Towleroad and dance music maven Matt Kalkhoff attended the Q&A session with Stuart Price (aka Jacques Lu Cont), the producer/collaborator of Madonna's new album, Confessions on a Dancefloor, and has some great details on the forthcoming album.

From Matt's mouth to your ears:

The entire album was recorded in the home studio of his London flat, including the vocals. He said his studio is as small as the stage he was sitting on -- and a lot warmer.

He apparently has a female neighbor who just cries throughout the day, and that you can actually hear her faintly in the background on some parts of the album.

Madonna knew from the beginning that she wanted to do a high-energy dance album. She said, "It’s gotta start at 120bpm and only go up."

The album’s 12 songs are continuously mixed, by Stuart, like a DJ set.

A full track listing is now available, as well as the cover art, at Madonna.com. But he mentioned the last song, "Like It Or Not," and said it was the perfect way to end the album – it’s a song that basically says, "This is who I am, this is what I do. Take it or leave it."

He chose the Jacques Lu Cont moniker for DJ and production work because it sounds like lump, and he just wanted to hear someone on BBC get all tripped up while saying it, which apparently happens frequently.

Even after winning a Grammy earlier this year for his remix of No Doubt’s “It’s My Life,” working on two tours with Madonna (as Musical Director of Reinvention and keyboardist for both it and Drowned World), he still lives in the same flat in London.

He says Confessions is “where pop meets dance” and blurs the line between the two. But it is also very soulful as opposed to techno or minimalist.

Madonna’s publicist, Liz Rosenberg, was also in the audience. Even though she helped bring Stuart to the Summit, she said she had a few questions of her own. She started out by saying, “I thought I knew everything about Madonna, but…” She and Stuart basically talked about how Madonna has a DJ’s ear and “she knew what she wanted to dance to,” so it really was the perfect record for her to make.

Thanks for the missive, Matt. You can read more of Matt's writing at MattUnleashed.

I like the idea of the songs blending into each other without any pauses. This is a technique that was done alot in the late 70s' disco era. This album is clearly aimed at the dancefloors/nightclubs.Madonna is returning to her roots.

it was done in the 70's, but in the 70's we didn't have cassettes, CD's, CD players, mp3's, ipods, etc. the songs just sat there on the vinyl and that was it. that just doesn't cut it anymore.

exactly my view. honestly, I think that if it allows for someone to switch trax, having a continuous play concept is actually a good idea. That way, it makes for great music to play at a party. If it's a 1 track thing like lovesexy though, well, there's gonna be alot of angry madonna fans and she could be risking a backlash (which she really doesnt need after the American Life fiasco).

I really dont think she would pull off a lovesexy tho. Madonna's not stupid.

I'm not falling for one her special editions again! I only kind of bought AL out of pity and then sold the original one. I'd rather have two copies of the regular CD...you're basically paying that much.

i can see her writing the song and going oh my god this would be a great title for a song. Than someone reminding her that she all ready has a song with that name.

But George Michael has done it. Granted it was as Wham! and not as a solo artist, but he still wrote both songs.

LONDON -- Fans booed Madonna and her filmmaker husband, Guy Ritchie, at the London premiere of his new movie, "Revolver," on Tuesday after the couple walked past most of the crowd without signing autographs.

The movie's star, Jason Statham, spent nearly an hour signing autographs in Leicester Square, but Madonna and Ritchie had only brief contact with the crowd of some 2,000 fans. They then posed for photographs before going into the theater.

Madonna, 47, wore a black sequined Roberta Cavalli tuxedo dress with her arm in a matching sling. Last month, she suffered three cracked ribs, a broken collarbone and a broken hand in a horse riding accident at her country home outside London.

The pop star said it was Ritchie's night and she enjoyed not having to work the red carpet. "This is fun for me. I get to dress up and show up," she said.

Critics have been scathing of "Revolver," but Ritchie, 37, defended the movie.

"The critics have been harsh all the way through my career but it doesn't affect me. I've accepted the rules of the game," said the director, who made the hit 1998 movie, "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch."

Asked why he didn't give Madonna a role in "Revolver," he replied: "Do you think they would let me get away with that? I did that last time, it didn't work."

Their collaboration, "Swept Away," bombed at the box office and was panned by critics.

I like it but I like trashy Euro dance. My inital reaction was she isn't reinventing the wheel but it sounds good. Then again, I heard the Motorola 1:21 sample, which I've heard is possibly faster than the original.

i dont know..ive always liked each of madge's first singles....even though "frozen" wasnt to my taste i still respected the musical direction she took.....this song, like american life leaves me cold and uninterested in hearing anything else from the collection..

im hoping in wrong and that the snippet from the commercial isnt the direction of the rest of the song or the album but im officially "blah" at the moment.
