Hehehe - I'm glad Nikki took you, I couldn't think of someone better to see them with. Now you have had the 'experience', it'll stay with you, mark my words! She's the perfect person to see shows with. And nope, never seen them before. I have all of their stuff (from Nikki) but was not super familiar with their music yet. Now I feel like a diehard fan overnight! I swear through the entire show I was either holding back tears or just letting go. I couldn't let my muscles and breathing relax. It just hit me so hard and so completely. I've been to a ton of concerts in my life, but very few that have hit me as hard as what Sigur Rós did last night.

I never heard a bad Sigur Rós album... They're ALL bad. Sigur Ros are like an Icelanding Radiohead or something. And Radiohead SUCK big time. World's most BORING band. Sigur Ros are the same - the music puts me to sleep.

The artwork of this caught my eye just yesterday. I vaguely remembered the name but I can't say that I know them. What's it like? Who sounds similar?

In answer to your questions: 1) Beautiful - one reviwer described their single 'Svefn-g-Englar' as: the sound of God crying gold teardrops from heaven' Pretentious? ...maybe, but let me just say this, if God ever DID cry gold teardrops from heaven, I think he'd be spOt on. 2) Nobody. They're beautifully, wonderfully, addictively unique.

Thanks, Banana!
Mmmmh, the video really got me. Beautiful, indeed. But does the little boy at the end really smash on the rocks?

The way I saw it was that they all had faith, whereas the little boy doubted his faith, and therefore fell from the sky. But then again, it's all relative...isn't it?

They definitely have their own thing going on, but you can tell that they're Icelandic. The closest comparison I can come up with is if Bjork's "Vespertine" was played by a rock band, you might have some idea of what "Takk" sounds like.

you said it all. but I didn't say much! lol. Really, it was truly one of my top performances of all time. And that's saying quite a bit. The intense emotion, the pure beauty of his voice, from soaring, lilting vocals to thunderous, raw angst. When the srim came up after the first song to showing just the lead singer with that spot on him casting a gigantic 200 foot tall shadow... The 'light show' was truly amazing, breathtaking even. It's been years since I imbibed in mind altering chemicals but I felt like I was halucinating for half of the show. I was moved to tears twice. |

I was sobbing through two songs and teary eyed through others. We were so stunned we could barely moved. I've been to over 200 concerts in my lifetime and this is easily in the top three. The light show was very minimalist but without question the most compleeing and emotional I've ever seen. I felt totally drug~tranced. I'm so glad you got to see them and had such an astounding experience. Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran

What would the other 2 be? BJORK of course Chicago/Island and Tori Detroit (because I got to meet her) and Toronto. (they only each count as one because they are the same artist Prince (the first time) and Bowie are at the top too and when we met Tricky ~ that was pretty amazing and Pink Floyd. It's funny how the whole picture affects how we feel about a show - the people you go with, the weather, the day, the venue, the mood, whether you get to talk to the artist, it all adds up. The ones you mentioned were all highlights for me as well.

I can't believe I never got my ass back on this thread! The Sigur Ros show was totally amazing. I've spent the week happily wrapped up in my pretty new sweatshirt from the show, reliving my favorite moments. It had been a few years since I last saw them in a theater, but it seemed like they really toned down the light show a lot. At first I found myself wanting more, but that quickly subsided and I grew to appreciate the sporadic use of intense lighting. There were so many times when I'd be looking at the stage wondering if the images I was seeing on the back drop were actually being projected or if they were leftover blobs I was creating in my head. Very nice. A challenge with writing about a Sigur Ros show for me is that I don't know the names of any tracks. Suffice it to say that not one song disappointed me. Twice I was moved to tears. And, all week I was a bit more blissful than usual as I kept thinking about the show. If Takk really is the final bow for the band, I sure hope they do a second tour for the album so I can get one last chance to see the beauty of Sigur Ros live...
