A-ha "TAKE ON THE USA" Just trying to come down off the "high" of finally seeing my favorite BAND ever for the first time. It was a long wait but 20 years NYC got to see them for a one and only USA show this year. The rumour is March 2006 will see a USA tour extensively.
But I just some interesting quotes from the members who spent the week in NYC and went to some Events and were interviewed about returning to the USA. Mainly they described it as being something that they had to do, this is really the only market that there CDs arent released in anymore, there last 3 CDs, 2 studio and 1 Live, all werent released here but around the globe were solid sellers. A-ha guitarist PAUL who actually lives in NYC part of the year with his wife, remarked that if U put out a CD here and it goes to sell 2-3,000 copies you are nothing and dropped but mostly everywhere else you are a big seller. Though A-ha has sold 30 million albums worldwide, about 1 million of that or so can go for the USA, and most of that is from their first CD back in 1985. Their next CDS, "Scoundrel Days" "Stay on these Roads" "East of the Sun West of the Moon" and "Memorial Beach" all failed to come close to the success of the first or even yield a Hit single in the USA. A-ha Member MAGS also said that it was quite depressing that they couldnt get their Last 3 Cd' s put out here, mainly because they felt they were their strongest work. But today is a different time, A-ha is Working as a Unit, they have a New CD due in November, round the world, I have heard 5 songs so far and already its their best, and the best Music I have heard this year. With the current wave of bands that are nothing more than COPIES of bands from the early days when A-ha was coming out, look for UNIVERSAL to target all of that when trying to Get A-ha's music out there again in the USA. VH-1 is the main target, keep an eye out, lots to come soon. There is also talk of A-ha releasing a DVD of the concert at Irving Plaza that they just played to go with the CD. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F | |
