that's when light skinned men were still in though... [Edited 9/14/05 7:35am] I heard a rumor the original chorus to "Off on your own girl" were: I only got 1 eyebrow/Said I only got one eyebrow/Said I only got 1 eyebrow, brow, brow, brow Damn! That's cold.

Interestingly enough, when I was six and first heard "Night and Day" it was the first time I realized I liked women.

I love me some Al B! I wish he would make a come back. His first album is the bomb and I love his rendition of killing me softly more than L Boogies.

His second album is available as a cutout and wasn't very popular. His first is a classic and is still stocked on shelves of most stores years after his hey day!

His 2nd and 3rd albums are very long too. I think both clock in at over 70 mins. Loads of newjack related stuff often came in at 40-45 mins. Al b always gave u both uptempos and slow jams. "see the lady" or "channel j" sounds like Jacko somewhat. Infact, alot of the backing vox is jacko like. Al b and kyle west were superb producers. No one sounded like al b production wise. Layer upon layer of overdubs etc.. gorgeous stuff.

That's what I wanted to know: Why did he use the same song on 2 albums? "But what of black women? . . . I most sincerely doubt if any other race of women could have brought its fineness up through so devilish a fire." -- W.E.B. Du Bois --

I really enjoyed Al's first album 'In Effect Mode'.In the summer of '88,it was one of the hottest albums out there, with one great song after another..."Nite and Day"..."Ooh This Love Is So"..."Off On Your Own (Girl)"...."If I'm Not Your Lover".Even though he utilized the same New Jack Swing sound that so many others were doing at this time,he still made it all sound distinctive and fresh. The slow jams were excellent.I thought "this guy is gonna really go far".
But then in 1991 I bought his second album 'Private Times...And the Whole 9' and it was a disaster. This CD was too damn long!! There was filler for days...lol...he opens the album with an embarassing remake of the Eagles' "Hotel California"...then he includes a lame duet with Diana Ross "No Matter What You Do"....and fills the rest of the album with predictable I'll-make-love-to-you-all-night-long ballads and tired uptempo New Jack Swing numbers (this style of music was played out by the early 90s).Not a single song here was as catchy and inviting as "Nite and Day" or "Off On Your Own Girl".Maybe he was trying too hard? Whatever the case,I eventually got rid of this CD. I never bought his third album, released in 1992.Can someone tell me if it was any good? Am I missing something?
