I'm probably more informed than anyone on the Org.

that's why you tag a band that has been releasing successful albums since 12 years a "new artist"?!? whofarted please elaborate...

Ok. A new artist is one that has been around maybe 1 to 12 years. An established artist is one that has been relevent for 10-20 years (Jamiroquai haven't really been relevant ever), and an old artist is one that has been around / relevent for 25+ years.

prince made it clear a new artist had arrived with Purple Rain, and became an established artist with the release of Sign O The Times, that record was relevant, it covered social issues in an artistic way, and/or pushed pop music forward in leaps and bounds. Just an example as Jamiroqaui haven't done anything like this and still have to show ANY musical ingenuity - so they are still a new artist. Maybe cover artist would be a more appropraite term?

rolleyes

Stop coming up with your own definitions of "new artist".Jamiroquai has been around since 1993,which hardly makes them a new artist.End of story.

No dis to his/ their fans, but to me, Jamiroquai always sound like ripped-off Stevie Wonder 'disco-ed' up. Fairly loathsome. If that's 'modern funk', then God help us ...

You know,I've never understood the Stevie Wonder comparisons. But if you're gonna be compared to someone,I guess it's best to be compared to a genuis, right? lol

It's funny that you mentioned the 70s.Jamiroquai has alot of credibility with R&B artists from that decade. In fact, many 70s funk/soul artists are huge fans/supporters of Jamiroquai.Maurice White of EW&F loves them....Stevie Wonder loves them....Kool and The Gang even recorded a recent song with them (a remake of their 1974 hit "Hollywood Swinging").Roy Ayer's bassist appears on the new Jamiroquai CD.These guys know that Jamiroquai are keeping the funk flame alive.

DavidEye thanx for holding it down. I didn't get a chance to respond to mattperry's misinformed comments. It's obvious that people who talk shit about Jamiroquai really know nothing about them outside of Virtual Insanity or Canned Heat from the dance scene in Napolean Dynamite. Jamiroquai is a very good funk and soul band and their albums get better with age. The Return Of The Space Cowboy is one of the best albums released in the last 15-20 years. When you listen to their albums it becomes apparent that they understand that real funk and soul talks about love, partying, and still has time to focus on social issues. Furthermore, they understand the importance of the groove. Basslines are thick and complex, the drums pound, chicken grease guitars, sweeping strings and synths galore. They also had the balls to add a didjeridoo to the mix on their earlier albums . That is very important because they do not limit their scope to traditional soul. They posess the ability to add world musical influences into their music. Most importantly, they don't weigh their albums down with ballads. Instead they strive for versatility and it has garnered recognition and acclaim from the creators of the funk.

A little word of advice for mattperry, do not get into a debate with DavidEye about Funk and Soul music because you will get schooled. And don't even bring those arguments about Jamiroquai to me because as a long time fan of 70s funk I know my shit!

Thanks bro! Now I don't have to type up a long response. You said it all lol

I would like to add this: Jamiroquai is picking up where bands like Chic,Heatwave and GQ left off.Like you pointed out, they understand the importance of the groove. They're making some of the most vibrant uptempo dance music of this era.You won't find any lame,plastic-sounding,sample-heavy,midtempo R&B-meets-hip-hop crap on their albums. These guys totally ignore the annoying trends that ruin so much of today's R&B.When I listen to a Jamiroquai CD,I hear REAL THICK BASSLINES....STRONG MELODIES AND HOOKS...NO SAMPLES,in other words, they use an "old school approach".They write about more than just "making love all night long".They actually use real instruments, can we say that about most modern-day R&B acts? Their recent single "Feels Just Like It Should" is easily the funkiest single that ANYBODY has released this year.Their current single "Seven Days In Sunny June" is melodic and breezy....and easily the best single of the year (so far).

I guess you haven't heard? The U.S. version will be a DUAL DISC.One side of the disc is the complete album (including "Time Won't Wait"),and the other side is a DVD that contains:

***the entire album in Enhanced LPCM stereo
***the "Feels Just Like It Should" video
***making of the "Feels Just Like It Should" video
***interview with Jay Kay about the making of the album

lol and of course,we get a cool album cover as well

..

David tell me something, how come on the Sony music store site they have the Sven Days video to be included on the DualDisc but the press release slaims only Feels Just Like It should is included?

I have no idea.I guess we'll have to wait until we buy it.I hope they include BOTH videos.

Like who? I'm with Uncle George when I say that Disco music is BLAH!

Let's see...

Maurice White of Earth Wind and Fire is a huge fan/supporter of Jamiroquai.

Stevie Wonder loves Jamiroquai. In fact,he was planning to record a song with them in 1999,but the plans fell through.

Kool and The Gang recently recorded a song with Jamiroquai. It's a remake of their 1974 hit "Hollywood Swinging",which you can find on the 'Roll Bounce' movie soundtrack.

Roy Ayers' bassist appears on four tracks on Jamiroquai's new CD.

I'd say that Jamiroquai has ALOT of credibility and support from some true funk/soul masters.

That song is not recent...it was on a tribute cd to Kool and The Gang about a year ago.Matthew Knowles just rehashed it with a lot of songs on the Roll Bounce soundtrack

This is your problem - AllMusicGuide give everything 3 or more stars. They're a big ad. Reviews will probably be mixed, but anyone reviewing it properly can't give it much without laughing.

WOW! You're really schooling me on this! You're quoting third-rate funk bands (stevie notwithstanding - although you would probably school me on hiw his 84-89 output is way better than Talking Book) as masters of the funk! You must really love disco!
