Jamiroquai's Space Cowboy (Title-Song) Appreciation Thread My purchase of Jamiroquai's most recent effort, Dynamite , forced me to pull my favorite Jamiroquai album, The Return Of The Space Cowboy. It's been a while since I listened to this CD and I had forgotten how brilliant the album truly is, especially the title track. The opener to Jamiroquai's masterpiece is simply amazing!!! The bassline, vocals, drumming, lyrics and synths are all on point. The track has a throwback 70's soul/funk feel, with an acid jazz spin. The breezy nature of the track takes it to another level, where you can actually feel what Jay Kay is singing about. So chill and atmospheric, with aggressive drumming and thumping basslines. Space Cowboy is arguably one of the band's best songs and it illustrates how good the original lineup was. Toby was one hell of keyboard player, Derrick's drumming is on point and Stu Zender's basswork was sick (I've also gotta give Wallis honorable mention for his Didjeridoo work although it's not featured on this track). I do enjoy present-day Jamiroquai. However, after listening to this song I've gained more appreciation for how talented the original group was. I wanna hear other people's thoughts. i love that song!!! Its got a nice laid back funky feel to it...something you sip your drink to and just chill. I love Jamiroquai, they are so different and creative.
My favorite song of theirs is "Manifest Destiny" though, gotta love that bass in that song, it just makes me wanna get up glide across the floor with the man i love.... I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. | |

This was my best friend and my song the year it came out. Thing was we heard it everywhere. It wasn't until my friend pointed it out that he was right. Played it where ever we went. I had no idea who the hell they were.
Until I went over to a friends house and he got me stoned and happened to put on the album....Ahhh I was in love! It is still one of my favorites of theres (the album version). I don't get into them much these days. I liked that sound and they really traveled past it. Synchronized is the last one I own. I didn't like it very much. Christian Zombie Vampires | |

I love love love this song!! Its such an anthem! I saw them last week and it was the second song they played, sent us all wild!!
As far as "good and brown", Misha, I think it has something to do with all the drugs he was on! Ive always accepted the song to be about how happy he was, while he was tripping.Cause then in the second verse its good and green, but hes red again?!! yeah, sounds like E to me.....bless. | |

I really like the new album. It's still a departure but the two songs you mentioned have that classic Jamiroquai sound. Seven Days In Sunny June is on point and its arguably one of one of their best songs and Tallulah has that classsic Jamiroquai ballad feel. I love the instrumentation on those cuts. Star Child sounds like something the old Jamrioquai would have done, but its mixed a bit with the new. The new album is cool though, I'm really diggin it. Especially the title song Dynamite, I love that groove. | |

In fact, this was the first time I ever heard of Jamiroquai. I saw the video on The Box back in 1995 and it was funky!  NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE. | |

Stuart Zender was so damn refreshing on this album. Great grooves, subtle mutes and ghost notes.....
what is even more interesting was that I think he only was playing for a few years on this album..... def need Stuart to return..... Music is the best... | |

I know you may not believe me, so head on over to: http://www.stuartzender.c...b7e514a1ec Click on the first topic which has an interview that Stuart recently did for the website www.stuartzender.co.uk and in it he confirms that he does not play bass on the album version of "Space Cowboy." He only plays on the single version. For the album version, Jay Kay called in a studio bassist because Stuart was away attending personal matters. Stuart didn't know until after he got back that Jay had done this behind his back and he was very hurt by this and it was the beginning of the end of his Jamiroquai career. Read the interview to hear it straight from the man himself. I love Stu's bassplaying but unfortunately it's not him on the title track. Whoever it is, that is a CLASSIC piece of bass playing. | |
