Do artists clear their throats?

WHen Mariah(Carrey) starts off the new song Shake It Off she sounds all hoarse and groggy like she need her throat cleaned.

She hits those high notes good when she's loud, but when it's soft it doesn't come out so clear. Sam thing with Ahsanti, half the time she sounds like she needs her nouse cleared.
Working up a purple sweat.

So, are you talking about throats or noses on this thread?

Ottensen

Yes artists clear their throats before singing. Whether in studio or for live performance. Usually what you're hearing is a matter of whether or not they've warmed up properly, and occaisionly they get what singers call "The Frog" once they try sing full voice.... wink

any good vocalist knows they should eat a lot of cheese and drink a lot of milk before any performance. A 2 liter of Cola also helps. smile

Actually Coke helps me out a bit. I dunno if it's because it coats the throat which can be helpful in a smoky bar but for some reason it works for me. shrug
