Michael Jackson, the beatles, Rick Wes!!! Maurice starr was a fucking genius sometimes.
In 1990, he put his hand to about 5 different albums. Take that Prince. Anyway, to say he spread himself thinly is an understatement. RICK WES ROCKS! In a absolutely stupid move, maurice thought he could actually make a modern day elvis back in 1990. Ricks album "north south east wes" (great title) is full of bizarre chris isakk and elvis 1950's arrangements and songs with that crazy, so so dated loud thwacking drums and snares that maurices loved to use. As its me, i love me some of rick wes. Truly one of the oddest artists to ever attempt a pop career. Why would teens of 1990 want to hear elvis ripoffs? . The album intro is the funniest thing i have ever heard. Maurice must be so ashamed of this one. In a loud pretentious, deep voice, with sci-fi bulidup backing..... " in the beginning....first their were the rock and roll stars of the 50's then the beatles in the 60's jackson 5 in the 70's and the new kids on the block explosion of the 1980's and now rick wes!!!" (see how maurice left off new edition )... ....In comes HUGE platic snares and a newjackish beat (the only one mind), with a catchy refrain of "north south east wes....baby ur the best" He tried agian with 1992's "possession", where instead of aiming at the kiddies, he aimed at the AOR adult contemporary market. He apes barry white on this one. This in all honestly has a few good tracks. Though not half as much fun as the first album. Some newjack/pop to be found on both. LIke the awesome strip song "dont u wanna rock". I just loved maurices drums on these 2 albums. Rick Wes should not be forgotten. I really think alot of u would enjoy (laughing) at this album. Iam gonna rock with rick wes! [Edited 9/7/05 16:17pm] | |
