Eric Clapton: Back Home

Anyone bought this album yet? Thoughts on it? I for one actually love the track Revolution...

I'm particularly interested if anyone has bought the DualDisc version - I'd like to hear about the extras. Thanks!

The reviews haven't been kind at all - every one that I've read laments the fact that it's too laid-back with the overly slick/glossy production that's been a staple of some of his albums in the past.

If that means it's like Pilgrim, I'm running out to buy it... nod

After a few days of listening, this album gets my recommendation. It isn't the hardcore, blazing guitar work that he's known for but man this is some heartfelt stuff. I'm DIGGING 'Love Don't Love Nobody', 'Revolution', and the title cut. Solid stuff here and very Pilgrim-esque in terms of production.

Anyone own his "august" album?

Very poppy, and very 80's. But its good fun though, and his guitar solo on "Miss you" is one of his best ever, as is his slower one on the gorgeous "grand illusion"

Yeah, I think that's probably my fave Clapton solo. "Forever Man" is cool, too, though I wish there was an extended version where he just goes off. He can be so restrained sometimes...

Y'know, I also dig the solo in that "Color of Money" movie, "It's in the Way That You Use It". Kinda poppish, but cool.

After a few days of listening, I agree with this completely - a very cool album. I like it a lot. Revolution is so damn catchy too - I find myself singing it in my head as I'm walking around. I bought the DualDisc version - I haven't watched the DVD side yet, but one thing I think is cool is that the DualDisc packaging includes 4 different color guitar picks with "EC" on one side, and "Back Home" on the other.

I'm starting to really discover the depth of Clapton's music - he probably appears on more tracks than anyone else under the sun. Even this week, his new album was released, plus appearances on the albums Les Paul & Friends and Mad Dogs & Okies. He's on another album next week (I forget what), and then the Cream reunion CD/DVD is out in a month or so. This guy works hard!

Actually, yes. Me too.

eek

I didn't even know this was coming out. I feel that he had quite a few releases over the last five years, but essentially,
this is the first studiodisc with new material since Reptile.

2001 - Reptile
2002/3 - One more car, one more rider
2004 - Me and Mr. Johnson
2005 - Back home

I have had the first listen now, and what can I say...

It is not at all like Pilgrim. It has a fair share of the touring-band on it, no beats and programming.

I am not a fan of his current band - the Gadd-East-Preston connection. First thing that struck me, was that this
album sounds like Eric didn't break a sweat recording the tracks. It is way too laidback for my liking.

Maybe it will sink in. I like the chorus of 'Revolution', though.

This thread made me dig up "journeyman" and to a lesser extent "august" (i casually play that album alot anyway)

"journeyman" has some top noth, if very slick, soft pop/ rock numbers. But his guitar on that album is on fire.

Hear "bad love" or "no alibis". Both great pop songs. Both with superb guitar playing.

Other favs go to "pretending" and my personal fav "breaking point".
