U ever heard "Niggerish"? if somebody played that track for you and you had no idea it was from a P Funk project, would you even know it had anything to do with G Clinton or the P Funk allstars? I don't know how there could be a PFunk project I would be unaware of Seriously, I'd probably wave off the Clinton raps (there have been a few guest cameos), but I'm really feeling Dewayne Blackbyrd Mc Knight on the guitar licks amdother instrumentaion, so I'd realize it was him one way or another. test

Been grooving to the new album, but I agree there are many nonessential tracks to say the least. Bounce to This and Paradigm are classic P-Funk jams though. The second disc would have really benefitted from at least one monster groove-oriented track. It is a real hodge-podge. One cool surprise that I have not heard anyone else here mention is the unlisted live track at the end of side 2, which is likely called something like "Get on Da Other Side of Da Door." It is set to the "Let's Take It to the Stage" groove and features a female rapper, Sativa perhaps, who does a nice job with it. Anyone else also notice that the track timing for the last cut on Disc 1 is about listed about a minute less than it actually is? Oh yeah, another nice track is Never Ending Love, cool lyrics too.
I attend GC's autograph signing Monday night at Tower Hollywood and spent some time talking to band members like Michael "Clip" Payne and Michael "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton. I have been following these guys religiously since the 1970s and it is cool they are still at it, but at the same time they look really road weary and it is kind of sad they do not get the same props as a comparable rock (read white) band. I am white, but get so tired of explaining to people who George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic are. I am psyched about seeing them at the Greek Theatre tomorrow night with Bootsy and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but am bummed I was told Bernie Worrell might not be there after all. It would have been nice to see Bootsy on GC's new album as well. Has anyone heard about the new feature film documentary about Bernie Worrell? I cannot wait to see it. Check out his Web site for info. Peace Y'all! If you've got funk, you've got style.

Here's a cool little piece I found on newfunktimes.com on the new CD and some info
about future releases. george clinton comes home late and funked up George Clinton George Clinton As the leader of Parliament and Funkadelic, George Clinton has long been acknowledged as one of funk’s founding fathers. With the P-Funk Allstars in tow, the genre’s absentee dad returns September 6 with his first studio effort in 10 years, How Late Do You Have 2 B B 4 U R Absent?, on his new C Kunspryruhzy label. "We’ve been working on this record all along," Clinton tells ICE, noting that the two-disc set sports performances and compositions from virtually all past and present P-Funk members, recorded in a multiplicity of locations and configurations. "This album’s like a sampler," Clinton continues. "We’ve got finished albums ready from almost everybody who’s featured on the record." Aside from contributions from the aforementioned Parliament and Funkadelic (the psychedelic guitar showcase "Viagra" and the apocalyptic ecology tale "Last Time Zone"), the guest list stretches from P-Funk outsiders Prince ("Paradigm"), Bobby Womack (a rocking cover of "Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On") and producer/rapper Jazze Pha ("You Ain’t Runnin’ Shit Roun’ Here") to Clinton’s son Trey Lewd ("Su Su Su" and "This Is Our Secret") and granddaughter Sativa ("Somethin’ Stank"). Elsewhere, femme vocalists Kendra Foster ("Bounce 2 This" and "You Can Depend on Me"), erstwhile Brainstorm member Belita Woods ("Don’t Dance Too Close" and a fiery, live gospel-soul workout on "More Than Words Can Say") and Joi of Lucy Pearl and solo fame ("I’ll Be Sittin’ Here" and "Trust in Yourself") share the spotlight with rapper Babbling Kabbabie ("Booty") and Tallahassee-based superfan Sue Dogg ("I Can Dance"). "[Sue] was telling one of her crazy stories, and I taped it," Clinton laughs. "Since hip-hop has been so busy sampling us over the years, we thought it was only fair we should sample ourselves, so we used a bit from ‘Nappy Dugout’ and created the track." Clinton has previously expressed plans to release a series of live Parliament-Funkadelic albums from various points in the outfit’s storied career — he’s set to embark on a 50th anniversary tour in the fall. "Oh, we’re definitely going to do that," he says. "We’ve got so much stuff, it’s ridiculous. Like for the jam-band audience, we could put out versions of ‘Maggot Brain’ or ‘Cosmic Slop’ done by every guitar player we’ve had over the years." As to whether this new LP serves as an introduction to or a summation of P-Funk’s body of work, Clinton says, "It’s both! We’ve always cloned ourselves, so this album is like the end of a beginning and the beginning of the end. We end in one place, then it’s all brand new again." –Don Waller Still hoping for a Funkadelic and Parliament CD proper. We'll see. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

At Cd release party at the Roxy about 25% of da funk mob took the stage and gave us a preview of tomorrow's set. Higlights: the live debut of "Sexy Side of U", Garry Shider (fully clothed no diaper), lone stroking on guitar, Gene "Poo Poo Man" gettin' off and Kendra singin' "Bounce 2 This" wearin' some kinda Wilma Flintstone mini skirt (I couldn't figre what was holdin' it up and she was lookin' fine!). Crowd was all LA funk and plenty of funk family and bandmembers. DJ was mixin PFunk oldies with the new bomb and some of that other funk. This was a PFunk party; mixin' it up with the band. There was an opening band too. Just a week of pure funk in So Cal. test
