Can MJ make a comeback?

I think he can. He just needs to put out something fresh. What would work is mixing his classic sound with a more contemporary influence. Kind of like an updated "Off The Wall" or "Thriller".

Also, he would have to tone down alot of the hype and learn that spending millions won't make a good record. Look at Invincible. He spent 30 million dollars on an album that was half good, half shit.

Overall, what he really needs is to look more hip and down to earth. This "King of Pop" bullshit isn't going to fly anymore, and alot of the kiddos won't buy that.

It would be great if he did something along the lines of HIStory. Contrary to what some people think, I thought that was a good album and, considering that MJ wrote and produced several trax himself, showed a more expressive side of himself. It would be really good if he went back to doing it himself rather than hiring several hitmakers to do it for him like he did with Invincible.

Thoughts?

Face it MJ will never make another historical monument like Thriller, Off The Wall, Dangerous, or even Bad. For me, Dangerous was the beginning of the end for him mainly because of the success of it. Alot of the public and some of his fans felt like he lost his juice with him working with an R&B hitmaker like Teddy Riley. They wanted another Quincy collaboration, but it was the 90's and I think with him going back to his R&B roots, he turned back on many fans and it seemed like Dangerous was his attempt to get back to a more younger audience who now loved hip-hop. I loved Dangerous, even though the CD length was long, and it was so underrated. HIStory made me think of MJ as a strange man that had this enormous ego and tried to recap the feelings he had on the Bad album, but made it into this almost horrid modern R&B, rock, and classical music affair. There were some good tracks on here, even though it sounded a lot like Dangerous and Bad mixed together. Invincible was a great, but not so excellent effort, that had him try to capture the modern pop sound Backstreet Boys or Britney Spears were doing at that time. I think MJ can make another great record, but he just doesn't have that voice we loved before. I personally feel if MJ ever releases another record, it's going to be another slight boring release like HIStory was (I mean listen to the new tracks on disc 4 of the Ultimate Collection boxset he released last year: they were pretty boring). And please don't get me started on the Jacksons reunion CD rumor!

I agree with you on some points. Yes, he will never make a record as great as his previous efforts. I do think he can still make a bangin CD tho, a hell of a lot better than Invincible. Let's face it,half the album was great, and the other half was a slap in the face. Also, HIStory was alright. Maybe it was because that was my first official MJ CD when I was 10, but I honestly feel that it was a pretty good album. However, Dangerous is slightly funkier and I tend to play that CD alot.

I do agree with you on this...DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE DAMN JACKSONS REUNION CD EITHER razz. That shit aint gonna happen anytime soon. It'll probably get released the day the new GNR album finally gets released lol

I guess so huh lol

My opinion is that the possibility of MJ never releasing another album PERIOD, let alone a good to great one is much higher than some fans are willing to recognize. Financially, psychologically, even PHYSICALLY the man is tremendously fucked up, and it half seems the man is barely able to function as a sane human being, let alone a creative entity. Then again, being fucked up can produce great art; just look at Sly when he recorded There's A Riot Going On. But I don't think MJ's the same sort of musician that Sly is, that is I don't think music is what gets him up in the morning and keeps him alive the way it kept sly alive during that period in his life, I think MJ gets his gratification from fame, adulation and commercial acceptance as much as, and perhaps even more than expressing himself through music, because of the lack of normal, healthy love he's had in his life. If MJ could channel his fucked-upedness into an album effectively, it would probably be the greatest statement of insular darkness since "Riot", but I'm not sure if he's capable of even disciplining himself that much.

definetly agreed. 'History' is my absolute favourite Michael album. i dont understand how people can not appreciate it. earth song is a masterpice and a world of growth from anything from thriller or off the wall. 'they dont care about us' 'stranger in moscow' and the lyrics of 'money' are absolutely incredible. if michael can do something as dark as history or blood on the dancefloor, then im one extraordinarily happy fan. i defiently like your idea, jacktheimprovident, about an extremely dark album, i'd hate it if michael caved into the pressures of releasing an off the wall type happy fluffy album

Mj can still come with the goods, Invincible just needed to be stripped down thats all, just down to 10 tracks and it would have been a tight album,

songs like

Butterflies
Whatever Happens
Don't Walk away

arent just good songs

they are also one of the best stuff he has produced..
its still in them , its just dusting off the bullshit like the lost children...

HIStory is a great album, possibly a masterpiece, it is definatley up there with Sign o the times and Purple rain in my opinion...

But the best MJ album IS Bad... every song is just magic.

because people think it sucks maybe? i bought that beast at a used record store..pumped it on my drive down to the LA get together and skipped through the majority of it.....love some of the songs..most of what TheCat has mentioned but everything else on there is crap..

now, im a am an mj fan....and all his other albums i dont skip a song (with the exception of a few on dangerous)...so what does that mean? i and many others just dont like a lot of the crap thats on History....you like it? good..but your not going to get the concensus that you get with the other albums because the majority just doesnt like a lot of the songs on that album.

Still your theory dont apply to me as I happen to hate Invincible just like everyone out of fan community.

Anyway
Great Tracks on History:
Scream
They Dont Care About Us
Stranger In Moscow
Earth Song
Money
2Bad
History
Little Susie

Good Tracks:
This Time Around
You Are Not Alone
Come Together
Tabloid Junkie
Smile

Not Good Songs but still flows:
D.S
Childhood

Yep, still adore the record

history is a good album i did love.,
it has the paraniod, angry and over the top stuff.

but that record is nearly a decade old already.
its under the bridge for micheal, we need to know what he is potential of doing NOW!!

and am hoping MJ has released all his tension and make tracks with his voice, rather then the computer vocal sounds that CHER and Britney love so much,,
i want more Butterflies, more Whatever Happens. those were recent, so he mst still got the good stuff in him,...
