Goldfrapp - Supernature album - OMG Don't you just love it when an album comes out of nowhere, kicks you right up the ass and - Jesus - you just go straight back for more?
People: you all need to buy Goldfrapp's new album, 'Supernature'. In a word: genius. I'll start off by admitting that I'm not the group's biggest fan. I don't have their debut album, 'Felt Mountain' (keep meaning to get that one ), 'Black Cherry' - its follow-up - is awesome and I've seen them live once, supporting Duran Duran last year. And they were very good, too. Anyway, remember this time last year when people were going crazy over Gwen Stefani's 'L.A.M.B.'? Bin that. I guarantee that for those that hear it, 'Supernature' will have the same effect. Although - this time - the shine won't wear off after the first few listens. It has some of the most beautiful, emotional music I have heard in a long, long time. It will make you sing, it will make you laugh, it will make you dance - it's the cleverest, wittiest, slinkiest, coolest album I have heard in ages. At certain points I felt like my brain was having sex with itself (and any song that does that has got to be worth it, surely?? ). It's jaw-droppingly good. Unfortunately, I haven't got time to write a full review but a whole host of Orgers come to mind whilst I write this. And I know you're gonna love it. My favourites so far: U Never Know, Ride A White Horse, Slide In and - oh my God, just beautiful - Time Out From The World. Anyone who has it, I'll be interested to read your responses... Have and love the first two albums Pandurito - you are going to LOVE this! I'm starting to wish I'd bought the Ltd Edition version now. Maybe I will. It's just one of the cleverest albums I've heard in ages. So catchy, yet so complicated. Organic, yet electronic. I listened to 'Time Out From This World' about 4 times on repeat last night. Absolutely gorgeous. I suppose it's a cross between Roisin Murphy meets Kylie meets Goldfrapp. Love it. The best album I've bought this year so far.

Cinny, you were definitely on the list of people I think would like this! GET THIS ALBUM. It's like the big sister to 'Black Cherry'. Except she's funkier, more striking and a lot more sexy. I want everyone to listen to it. If you're looking for Felt Mountain, try www.play.com

They sold their soul for commercial sucess...It's their Musicology I'm not sure. It's definitely catchier but I don't think it's more commercial, as such. They've just added a lot of clever hooks and pop flourishes on this one. There again, as I said, I only have their last album (which I think is fantastic). I don't have the sense of 'history' or expectation other fans may have. But, hey, each to his own. I hope it grows on you.

Have and love the first two albums I wonder if the U.S. edition next year will be released as a CD/DVD dualdisc. That would be way cool. I would love to have all their videos in 5.1 surround sound. Alison is hot.

Got this blurb from Amazon.com
There aren't many British female singers who do their own thing with unapologetic flair, eccentric lyrics and outspoken abandon. Women like Moloko's Roisin Murphy, Garbage's Shirley Manson, and Goldfrapp's Alison Goldfrapp, who releases her third album in collaboration with band mate, co-writer and producer, Will Gregory. Supernature follows their Mercury Prize nominated debut release Felt Mountain in 2000 and 2003’s Black Cherry. The new album is the sound of Goldfrapp breaking through their own crash barrier - an uncompromising, psychedelic, electro-glam, creative force at the top of their very own game. Supernature is a triumph; a combination of electronics and decadence, soaring, sneering vocals and high drama, which references pretty much every glamorous, dark, witty, twisted bit of pop produced over the last 20 years. Mute. 2005. OK, now i'm excited!! Anytime there's a reference made to Roisin, i gotta hear it!

So what if it's $18 bucks.

It was released in the UK yesterday. Not sure if it's available as an import, sorry. Might be best to try some websites? www.play.com and www.cdwow.com are always cheap (and free P&P). Hope you manage to find it! I was listening to it again last night. LOVE it.

BTW, the album is great. I don't know that one. Not off-hand, anyway. I need to get their first album, now. I've been playing 'Supernature' all week.

I went searching downtown for the import yesterday to no avail. One place was sold out and wouldn't get more copies until the weekend. Another store had vinyl copies only. I will try again at a few different stores before the end of the week. If I'm still not successful, then I'll just order it online.

for the first time in a long while, I'm actually excited to buy an album. ONA, I trust your instincts on this. Alison Goldfrapp is amazing. I don't have any of her albums, just singles and various cuts. Guess it's time for me to go on a Goldfrapp binge and buy all three albums. I think her voice is lucious 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I just got my import today and so far it's great! I've heard about half of it. Oh, be prepared to spend $25 for the import!

Yes - it's good. Glam-electro.
It's also not as good as Fischerspooner's Odyssey. Give that a try if you want to hear the nest new synth pop.

Supa, I'm sure you'll love it. Maybe I wouldn't call it 'genius', like I originally did (I think I was a bit smitten) but it's still the best album I've heard all year. Wait 'til you hear 'Time Out From The World'. Beautiful. And you'd definitely love 'Black Cherry' - it's so dirty and luxurious at the same time. Let me know what you think! And dancerella, I'm glad your copy has arrived.
