"I Am a Bird Now" - Antony and the Johnsons I slept on this album for a little while but have been listening to it non stop since yesterday evening. And honestly, I can't see why I put it aside initially. This is probably the best album of 2005 so far. Well, if not the best, surely one of the best. The album breathes a very romantic, theatrical atmosphere and is all about a man wanting to turn into a woman (there's even a pic of Candy Darling on the cover, shot by Andy Warhole in 1974). Aside from the (perhaps to some people) weird thematics of this album, the at times theatrical vamp outs, the core of this album remains the otherworldly vocals and the exquisite piano noodles. If fact, these vocals are among the strangest, most intoxicating I've ever heard. Antony's voice is a mixture between the male N female, between seriousness and mockery. It sounds unlike any of the vocals you'll hear on the charts, that for sure LOL. Guest spots on this album are for Rufus Wainwright, Lou Reed and Boy George. Although, despite their fame, they hardly stand out as distracting to the album. Their contributions fit in nicely n don't intrude on the atmosphere that Antony builds up from the first song onward. Truly, check this out and let me know what you think about it. I'm convinced that it's going to take a very good album indeed to make me knock this out of my personal top 3 for 2005. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

the album is definitely gonna be on my top 5 albums of the year list.
"Fistful of love" is one of the best songs of the year. I woke up sunday morning with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt
and the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad so I had one more for dessert

i've been curious about this album...i bought a CD single by them years ago that had a cover of a david lynch/julee cruise song on it, and i wasn't crazy about it though i appreciated how different it was. hearing everyone rave about this album, though, i wonder if maybe i should give them a second chance.

A beautiful album. 'Fistful of love' is probably the best thing i've heard all year.
The Magic Numbers lp gets my choice for the best of the year though. "London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"
"YEAH!!!" "Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"
