Harry Connick Jr in New Orleans HELPING not "just" talking

I see just the things that are good "SoundBytes" as usual are getting play, whether it be things like BUSH saying "we will succeed" kind of funny since he has already failed here and in IRAQ, sorry to say this but we LOST in IRAQ badly or Kanye's words or any other statements being made. Just heard about HOW Harry Connick Jr, from New Orleans, lived poor most of his life there, was there DAY 1!! Not Day 5 o 6 and Not talking, he is actually DOING something there, moving debris, giving out food, whatever he can. Now i'm not taking away from Kanye's statements but they are just words, and Like Eric Dyson said, these people Were in "Poverty" before the Hurricane and thats where the Problem lies no one was talking about that.

Interesting to see that a pop jazz singer can make himself useful from the get-go, but our commander in chief can hardly be bothered to show up and help booster morale for millions of Americans who could really use just one stupid speech to feel like there's some hope in all this mess. It kinda reminds me of 9/11, when Rudy Guiliani stepped up to the plate and did everything that the president should have been doing, plus more. Lame, but at least there are people in this country who ARE taking responsibility and showing their love and commitment.

And that's the absolute right thing for him to be doing. He was born and bred there, grew up right alongside the Marsalis family- that's his land, those are his people, and I could totally understand why he's there... from what I know of folks from New Orleans, they are VERY VERY attached to their roots, and I would imagine that his whole family and cultural history crumbling before his very eyes is a pretty heavy thing for him to witness.

The one thing I wanted to mention though, is that HC Jr. is NOT from a poor backround. He is the son of two distinguished New Orleans judges, though his mom Anita is long deceased. Regardless of his family's social status, or even his stature in the music industry, it is good to know that he's at home helping his own... especially since it took so long for folks from the outside to go and lend a hand... sad

i just saw a very moving interview on tv with him literally BEGGING for people in the viewing audience to help in any way they can...

...and remember the images we've seen of those two elderly women who died in the convention center, the one in the wheelchair and the one lying next to her against those orange doors? he went to see their bodies and he said when he saw the arm exposed of the one in wheelchair, and saw her beautiful brown skin, he was just drawn to take her by the arm and pray over her body, and over the body of the other woman lying next to her, because he felt like they had been forgotten and he wanted to pray to let them know that someone was thinking of them and that their suffering was over....it was pretty sad... sad

you libs are not gonna turn this into another vietnam...which we lost only because of public opinion. WE ARE WINNING IN IRAQ, and you can have a 100 cnn's telling you otherwise. If clinton was president right now,in the EXACT same situation, they'd say we're winning!

and again: WE ARE WINNING !

as for the real topic of your post: In times like this everybody needs to pull together and do the best they can. I hadn't heard the story yet, but i find it very inspiring. People often b*tch about celebrities and they're so-called influence...but I think they can have a lot of influence on other people, and if they can use that to help the victims of this tragedy...it's almost their duty to do so. I think everyone who's doing something to help right now deserves a big thank you!
It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

wow! still amazes me how some people can just turn reality around.

you're ignoring two years of progress made (free elections, a constitution, 90% of schools are open, hospitals having all the equipment sadam denied them,...) yet I'm blind ? rotfl

Michael moore, in bfc, was ranting about how the media painted a wrong picture of how dangerous the US is,...well now the lib. media is doing the same thing about Iraq. And if you prefer to believe CNN and consorts...fine go ahead. I believe they have a great special on how pearl harbor was actually our fault up next.

First of all This WAR was not sold that way. It was told that Sadam was planning to attack us, and that he was behind 9/11. Lies and more Lies, sure this guy was a horrible dictator, but if thats the case then tell that to the soldiers and tell them thats why they are fighting and dieing. Next this war was also SOLD to us as being done in 3 months, 2 1/2 years later we are still there dieing, and when I say Losing, we are losing, that country is not stable and its not going to be stable because the people fighting for it dont care what they have to do to win, and will fight to the end, we will not. It is Vietnam all over. I heard someone say the other day that the odds of the soldiers exiting IRAQ under Bush are ZERO, that means they will still be there in 2008!!

just walk away. honest. you cant debate someone who toes the party line. EITHER party. I wouldnt engage in a debate with Michael Moore either - they're just completely blind and quoting the party pamphlets.

go america! great job!!

Hello in there, Kev1n.

What color is the sky in the United States of Foxland today?

These successes in Iraq have come at an incredible cost. In lives. In resources. In our standing around the world. In whatever goodwill we had among the folks that we claim to be helping in the region. You can trot out your tired "lib" shibboleth all you want. You're seeing what you WANT to see.

Come back to us here in reality. The water's just fine.
