Street Songs.Easily Slick Rick's best work and it's the album he'll be best
remembered for. Throwin down? Well that one came after Street Songs. It was okay but I only liked "Dance Wit Me". "Hard To Get" was okay, But it sounded a little too much like "Super Freak" to me.

You're right about hard to get. It sounds exactly like superfreak. Did you like "Fire it up?" "Love Gun" is one of my favorite songs by rick.

Now you're talking about some classic Rick James right there! Both songs. A friend of mine let me listen to a bootleg of "Rick James Live" It was a concert recorded in 1981. Rick's voice was horrible! It sounded like he'd been hitting the bong a little too hard before the show. But his band was tight. Especially his horn section. Teena Marie sounded good too. She sang "I Need Your Loving" and "Square Biz" I was hoping that the duet "Fire And Desire" was on the tape . But it wasn't. Rick'd voice would've screwed that song up big time. Last I heard, they were suppose to release some tracks Rick made before he passed away. I'd like to hear them.

I love the entire "Fire It Up" album. This was the album that got me hooked to Rick James. Check out "Come Into My Life". The bass line of that jam is killer funk.

I am leaning torwards Throwin Down. I didnt like it at first, but it's pretty damn funky for just "Standin On The Top" alone.

THOUGH I cant just not look back for "Fire & Desire" "Ghetto Life" and "Give it To Me"
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Ohh I forgot about "Standing On The Top"! That was the jam right there. The Temptations tore it up!

Mine has to be Street Songs, fa sho. I love that joint, "Call Me Up". Very jazzy and deeply funky with those mindblowing basslines. Every track on that release just reads like a greatest hits compilation and he just pulls out of the stops on here. And who can forget the album cover? I didn't here anyone say anything about his debut album, Come Get It, which is my 2nd fave Rick release.

'Street Songs' is Rick's masterpiece.Every song is classic. The previous albums had their moments, but in 1981,Rick took his brand of "punk funk" to a whole new level. He diversified his sound with thrilling results...."Super Freak" combines New Wave/pop elements with sizzling funk..."Mr.Policeman" adds a little reggae to the mix...."Give It To Me Baby",with its unforgettable bassline,is the ultimate post-disco funk jam.He continued to make decent albums throughout the 80s,but none can compare to the brilliance of 'Street Songs'.

That album is horrible.Every song has that over-synthesized mid-80s sound. What a mess.Rick lost his way with this album.

Definately one of his worst albums. "The Flag", "Glow" and "Wonderful". Rick had lost it by then.

I like "Can't Stop", "Melody (Make Me Wanna Dance)", and "Glow". They are OK but they sure aren't Rick James at his best by no means.
