i'm sorry- whether mr. west is right (which i believe he is) or wrong, this is not the place to start this fight. how about helping those who need help? this isn't his platform- it's theirs. people who go on national television and play the race card in situations like this obviously have nothing pertinent to add to the situation. you want to say it on an album? please do. in an interview? absolutely. again, i agree with him. bush is an asshole- but don't take the focus off of those starving and dying due to a national disaster to say something off topic.

Exactly but that is what is wrong with this Country, if this happened in England there wouldnt be a "race" battle. Im not saying there shouldnt be talk of this, lets be honest, 98% of the area Hit the hardest were Black, and most of New Orleans live in Poverty, they make an average of 8,000 a year!! Had this been a wealthy "whiter" area like Florida, relief would have been there day one. The Biggest problem with this is nobody in GOVT will admit that the BIG reason why releif and the National Guard wasnt there, is because they are all in IRAQ fighting the MOST USELESS WAR in history! I think right now EVERY soldier over there should put there Guns away and say "F.U. Bush" and get on a Plane and desert the Army and get back here and Help. But i think a better POINT that was made by BILL MAHER and ERIC DYSON just a few moments ago, "people dieing are people dieing" whether they are Black, white, whatever or whatever country they are in. The point is in america its all "ME ME ME", we really dont care about the next person.

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

If it was Bono or some shit like that, you guys would be calling him heroic for his comments and he would be man of the year or something.

The govt don't care about these poor black people. It's clearly obvious.

There is a reason you don't see many white people left in NOLA.

They are buying buses and getting shipped out.

So come off that race card crap.

The racial divide in America is deep and still exists.

Your a dumb ass, if you want to pretend it is not here.

In the media, blacks were being protrayed as looters, while whites were reported as finding food, etc.

Yet no one complains about the media playing it's race card?

Well being that President Bush has publically attacked affirmative action programs accross the country on many many occasions, but never has once spoken about Legacy admitance, I can see Kanye's point.

For those of you who don't know what legacy it, it's the system that elite colledges use to allow kids into school based on the fact that a past familiy member went there--or based on family history or support of the school. Historically, african americans have not had the opportunity to take advantage of legacy (how many rich blacks existed 100 years ago?) so it's almost a guarantee that 99% of students admitted becuase of Legacy are white. And unlike affirmative action, they are admitted regardless of credidentials (Bush went to college becuase of a Legacy program).

Bush has said NOTHING about Legacy.

Again, Kanye may have a point.

no- if bono said it "us guys" would be scratching our heads. bono knows the appropriate time and place for comments as such.

I AGREE WITH HIM (KANYE). the administration has turned a blind eye to the african american population in the area. the problem is simply that this night, this telethon, this effort, isn't about your fucking political posturing. it isn't about your opinions. its about helping the people who need fucking help. you want to bitch about race? DO IT ON YOUR OWN FUCKING TIME. put your money where your cue-card reading mouth is. should there be troops in iraq? fuck no. is the government making the effort it needs to make? absolutely fucking not. its a joke.

hey kanye, "they've given them permission to go down and shoot us"? who's shooting at the helicopters, friend? who's attacking military police? there's 5-7 rapes a day in the superdome. 5-10 murders a day. military police aren't there to handle the "black problem". they're there to handle the "big fucking problem." do you know what "martial law" means? from dictionary.com: "Temporary rule by military authorities, imposed on a civilian population especially in time of war or when civil authority has broken down." you want to go find food? i can understand and justify that. you want to steal tv's? sneakers? clothes? go fuck yourself. what the fuck are you gonna do with a tv when your house is flooded?

the media is unbelieveably racist, there is no doubt. fox news is a goddamned disgrace. but it ain't always the government that is fully responsible for situations like this getting out of control. america, in general, is fucked to the core. everyone worrying about just the government doesn't have the full picture.

First off Kayne was not reading a cue-card.

hey kanye, "they've given them permission to go down and shoot us"?

who's shooting at the helicopters, friend?
who's attacking military police? there's 5-7 rapes a day in the superdome. 5-10 murders a day. military police aren't there to handle the "black problem". they're there to handle the "big fucking problem."

http://news.yahoo.com/new...ion_hk1_26

No one was.

And the big problem is you gotta a bunch of poor blacks being treated like African slaves, thus it is "the black problem." The people you see on TV are black. Black babies, black men, black kids and black women.

do you know what "martial law" means? from dictionary.com: "Temporary rule by military authorities, imposed on a civilian population especially in time of war or when civil authority has broken down."

you want to go find food? i can understand and justify that. you want to steal tv's? sneakers? clothes? go fuck yourself.

You gotta be a dumb ass to sit and watch that shit on TV, and really think that tons of people are just running around looting TV's and shit. You can't be that dumb.

what the fuck are you gonna do with a tv when your house is flooded?

Again, you can't be that gullible.

the media is unbelieveably racist, there is no doubt. fox news is a goddamned disgrace. but it ain't always the government that is fully responsible for situations like this getting out of control.

The govt failed it's people, which ironicall happened to be poor blacks. The damn FEMA president even said it.

america, in general, is fucked to the core. everyone worrying about just the government doesn't have the full picture.

Anyone not worrying about the govt, does not have any picture at all of what reality is.

You mean to tell me that CHina can clear out an entire city of poor folks, and the big bad US can't?

I think that Kanye was wrong to do what he did. Whether he's right or not, the purpose of the show was to raise money for those in need of food not share his views of where the world and what's wrong with it. Who cares? As a result, his comments have made news cause I just saw it on CNN and it takes away from what NBC was trying to do. There's a time and a place for everything. It wasn't the time or the place for that. Period.

what the fuck does slavery have to do with fucking anything? "black slaves"? please. those people weren't forced to do anything- they could have left if they wanted to. your tone shows you're not listening. kanye's fucking stupid rock-star ego got in the way, emotion took over, and he said something completely stupid in that situation. he's turning the louisiana problem into the bush problem. you want to point fucking fingers? how about waiting for everyone to be taken care of first.

the only people making this a racial problem are the people who are insisting its racial. this situation is a bunch of people teetering on starvation and death. there's no skin color when disaster strikes. its people dying. fuck you for making it your platform. get off your fucking high horse and do something other than bitch.

could the us have cleared out the city? fuck yeah- if they used the chinese government's method- forcing everyone the hell out. the people there are there because they didn't want to leave.

For Kanye's next record, he needs to try to make the There's A Riot Goin' On of hip-hop, even if some people don't appreciate the record. Kanye made a great statement and I think it's going to be another classic moment in hip-hop history!

ThreadBare

I find it interesting that so many West critics on this thread find the timing inappropriate.

West is the biggest young black male music star right now -- known for presenting a fresh face to the rap marketplace. All of that is code for saying: He plays the game well. So well that he recently was on Time magazine's cover!

Participating in a benefit concert for Katrina's victims, the bulk of whom are poor, black people. People in a dismal, situation exacerbated by a lack of leadership from the president and his apathetic administration.

I think it was the perfect platform and opportunity to criticize the president. I wish more entertainers would take a stand and protest and criticize -- especially when they're the "it" entertainer, the star du jour, in the spotlight.

Kanye rocks. I just might buy his records now. lol

to sleazyG and this statment
those people weren't forced to do anything- they could have left if they wanted to

are u serious? thats one of the most ignorant things i have ever heard!
many of those people who didnt leave were poor, they didn't have no money to hop on the first thing smoking out of new orleans. also who the hell expected the levee's to break?! and who expected that damn katrina to be a 5 when they were predicting a 3 for so long?!

Kayne's street cred just went up! lol

I mean, could you see someone like the (all of a sudden) invisible LL Cool J or even P.Diddy, saying something like that? In other words, Kayne isn't worried about hollywood or how the media portrays him.

But in all seriousness, some of his comments are true and Mr. West is a very emotional cat if you guys haven't noticed that.
