RIP RL Burnside - RIP the Blues? More sad news following the uncertain fate of Fats Domino - latter-day blues-great RL Burnside has died at 78.
I must play his excellent album, 'I Wish I Was in Heaven Sittin' Down'. In my relatively inexpert opinion, I cannot think of any other convincing living blues artist. They're either fakes or past their prime. And I'm talkin' blues, not blues-rock here. RL was the real deal. Though he recorded mostly late in his life, his best work ranks high in the blues pantheon imo. Topic for discussion - is the blues dead or has it just gone deep underground (no pun intended)? And if anyone says hip-hop is the new blues, I'll set the Wolf on ya ...

Don't nobody wanna talk about the future (or lack of) for the blues?
Without the blues, no jazz, rock, funk, and so on. So, no blues, no future ...
