What do you guys think of the La Dona album? When I heard Teena Marie was coing out with an album last year I was so excited and bought it the day it came out but man, was I disaapointed after hearing it. It was all r&b slow jams. Where the hell was the funk? I give the cd 2 listens and never picked it up again. What did you guys think?

Yeah La Dona was missing that uptempo element unfortunately.
She still has the pipes on the slow jams though, so I enjoy it.

I'll have to pick that joint up. How good is it? I've heard that the album runs a little bit too long and it has too many ballads. [Edited 9/2/05 16:46pm] Check me out and add me on:

That's accurate. But I mean, she's a good singer, so what kind of complaint is that?

That album sucks IMO | |

what do other Teena fans think of Passion Play?
La Dona isn't her greatest, but still more than listenable.

A more updated hip-hop and R&B sound that attracts young listeners who never really heard of Teena Marie. Check me out and add me on:

I like two of the slow jams on the CD but that's all I like. Teena has had some great slow jams in her career but she has also had some hardcore funk, which is what attracted me to her in the first place. I know why she made an album like this one though. Most artists that make funk these days lose money because the dead ass radio stations won't play it and the dead ass general public only likes ballads and rap which is around the same tempo as the ballads. People these days don't even know what the hell funk is and it's fucking rediculous. Andy is a four letter word.

I liked it. There were some really good tracks on it, but there was filler also.
My faves were "My Body's Hungry", "I'm Still In Love", and "A Rose.."

Vain, the slow jams were the strong suite on the album especially the duet with Gerald Levert which was remisniscent of Slick Rick.

I brought the album today and I 98% loved it. There were only 3 tracks on here that were real stinkers, but the rest was killer. The production was very high-quality and Teena is at her best here. My #1 fave cut on here was Honey Call. The album is very jazzy and the ballads have a lot of substance in them. This is not only one of the best and strongest releases of 2004, but it is one of Teena's best releases in a long time. Like they all say: DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK! Check me out and add me on:

There are only two songs that I skip over..."The Macking Game" and another one that is very hip-hop (can't recall the title). But I pretty much like everything else.
