Bring Back Taylor Dayne Whatever happened to that too much lispstick wearing, deep-voiced, big-haired bastard?
Taylor Dayne was the junk back in the 80's. Her first album "Tell it to My Heart" was released in 88 and besides the great first single there was "Prove Your Love" , "I'll Always Love You", and "Don't Rush Me". She was great because she could do dance, mid-tempo, and ballads with equal success. And her voice was so distinctive, all deep and throaty and just damn sexy. Her second album came in 91 and was also successful, with hits like "With Every Beat of My Heart" and "Love Will Lead You Back". (The last song brings me back to the early 90's in a haunting kinda way, the way that good songs do). Third album a few years later didn't do as well and I think her last major release was like 7 years ago. She's had a few live and re-mix albums but no major product. Taylor Dayne had the voice, the style, half-decent dance moves, and solid production. Sure she wore way too much makeup and sure there was a small community of woodchucks living in her moussed up hair. And, yes, her videos from her first album may be among the most dated of any artist ever. (Don't believe me---watch "Prove Your Love" and soak in the 80's until you get all pruny). But Taylor was awesome and I miss her. Bring Her Back! Taylor Dayne---I want to swim in her hair like an otter. All good things they say never last...

I wish she would come back too. What is going on with her after being remade on VH1?

The funny thing is that yes, they tried to bring her back and I guess it didn't take. At the end of the show they said her new Rodney Jerkins song (which was Anastcia leftovers...) was going to be featured on a new greatest hits CD but they date they posted (I think Feb 2005) has passed...

VH1 should not venture into territory like bringing back artists. Once an artist appears on VH1, any chance they have for a proper comeback is over as they immediately become a has-been joke. Taylor you should have waited for me. You've made that mistake before, you know rushing into stuff, and if you would have had a little more patience the Org could have brought you back large. All good things they say never last...

Taylor lost her record deal when Sony and BMG merged. (She had been re-signed to BMG the year before). There is a message from Taylor on her website regarding this.
The Greatest Hits collection was cancelled. Now I hear she is working on a cover CD of soul classics. She covered Rufus and Chaka's "You Got The Love" among other songs. I hope she gets a deal soon. She is way too talented to stop recording.

Taylor Dayne is a great singer. I totally agree. I guess all we can do right now is listen to Taylor Dayne "light" - Anastesia.

I agree and that sucks out loud (although did we really need yet another Dayne collection out there...unless this one has all the stuff from the last one plus a song or two from "Naked" and "Planet Love", there is no point (and something tells me there was one way it would). I would much rather hear a full new album rather than the same old set of covers that it expected from most mature (well, over 30 anway) artists these days.
