JediMaster said: In all, to use a film comparison, Kate is Stanley Kubrick to Tori's David Lynch. You can see the influence of Kubrick on Lynch, but Lynch has gone in a much more abstract direction. Kubrick is all about long shots, and delving into darkeness. Lynch does this as well, but in a much more painterly, metaphoric manner. Strange, though interesting analogy. I can see Tori as David Lynch but I can't see Kate as Stanley Kubrick. And I'm not convinced that David Lynch was influenced by Stanley Kubrick. Have you read this? Well, okay, maybe by the brutality of Clockwork Orange. Overall, Kate's music is much more filmic than Tori's. I would LOVE to make films like Kate's songs. Moody and imagistic with cross-current emotions like in Mother Stands For Comfort. I consider her a major influence on my own work as a filmmaker.

There you go again turning this into a Kate thread.....damn can Tori have one shining moment to herself Don't Push Your Foot On The Heartbrake I love the live version even better, especially the part where she goes "contro-o-o-o-o-o-o-ol". Yeah, it's still my second least favorite....Red Shoes is her worst, imo. DPYFOTH is one of my very least songs of hers. Still, each to their own. I really don't understand what folk have got against The Red Shoes. Sure, it's quite an ordinary album (for Kate, at least), but there's still a lot of good songs on there. Ok, back to Tori.

To me, its fairly obvious. I see a whole lot of Kubrick's style in Lynch's. I'm a big fan of both though, so maybe that says something. I keep trying to find parallels and I just don't see it. I gotta think about this.

It's a very strong contender for my favorite album of the 90's.
