Alicia Keys gonna be there, Usher's gonna be there - Where's Prince? Is Prince gonna do the benefit concert or the telethon for the people of New Orleans and Mississippi? I notice that people on this site diss Alicia and Usher to no end; well where's ya boy in all of this? Staying low key with the rest of the "entertainers". Any entertainer who has taken a political view on a record needs to step up and do their part. People like Usher, Alicia and even silly ass David Banner who are not known for expressing any political views are stepping up to help raise money for this disaster. Where's Prince?
Yeah, I went there. Prayers to all the people suffering. I'm doing what little I can. Hopefully others will, too. Peace.

I dunno where Prince is. This could be USA 4 Africa all over again.

does he ever show up at these kind of gigs?
i guess he just donates or something, dunno and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Does one need to be seen donating in order for it to be relevant and appreciated? Heck, even people like Dennis Rodman have done low key charity work with no hoopla involved. I think this is just another one of those things Prince chooses to do his own way.

What makes you think he's doing anything at all? There are times when its okay to be visible when doing something, too. Especially entertainers. They can be visible as hell when they have some new shit to sell; they can be visible in times of need showing their support. Its encouraging for people to see them helping in some way. This holds true for all public figures.

Not Prince. His 'N.E.W.S.' album got no promotion at all. But I agree with you that if Prince is doing something to help the victims of hurricane Katrina, people should know.

i think is great that entertainers throw their weight and support good causes..
but i also hate how american media only seems interested in "american" catastrophes....yes, what happenening is traggic..yes people should help...but lets remember this the next time a major earthquake hits the asian world and many many more people die. Space for sale...

He has had 25+ albums. Just because N.E.W.S. got less promotion doesn't exempt him from taking the same liberties with his stardom as any other artist. Let's not ignore the big pink elephant in the room called Musicology. There was a lot of promotion for that, but I digress. Thank you for seeing exactly what I'm talking about. Somebody call MJ's ass, too. I know he's out of the country and mad at the U.S. media right now, but he needs to speak up too. Mississippi & N.O. citizens have his albums, too and he IS known for doing things like this.

Artists like Prince are known for getting people to think & do. He has a strong fanbase and right now would be a good time to make a stand for something good. The same guy who made the "Cinnamon Girl" video needs to step up and been seen. This rings true for any and all entertainers who have displayed political views in their music. Where are those f*ckin' Dixie Chicks? They better surface, too.

Back on topic, please. Who's got a list of artists doing benefit concerts? [Edited 9/2/05 12:06pm]

I like the fact that you blindly categorize artists according to what state they are from rather than their viewpoints. Real smooth. Got any other twists for us, genius or are you done wowing us with your dazzling intellect? This is a natural disaster occuring in our own back yard and it affects all of us here in the U.S. Its not about the red or the blue, but the red white and blue. If we truly want to be known as the most powerful nation in the world, we'll clean up our own backyard and take care of our own in critical times like this and show true strength.

I couldn't have said it any better. Thanks for saying it for me. We need to be unified in efforts to get the Gulf Coast back in shape. This is going to take a long time to do this and hopefully, Prince will do something if hasn't already. In the meantime, we got to do our part in whatever way we can to help our fellow brothers and sisters down in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I'm not on his bandwagon like his nutties, but he doesn't owe shit to nobody(no disrespect to the victims).
And yes I do realize that the common folk put him right up there @ the top but the brotha worked his ass off for his own fame and glory too. He doesn't need to profe anything to anybody(despite all his preaching) thats up to him to sleep with @ the end of the day. You wanna help somebody? God bless ya, do your do and don't worry about the rest. I could give 2 shits about Prince, MJ, Alicia or Mickey Mouse(Usher),,,the ?uestion is where the fuck is Bush and his department after 5 days? At least, thats how I basicaly look @ the whole thing. [Edited 9/2/05 13:38pm]

Bloody hell, what do you want him to do? In fact what's the point of this Telethon anyway? Entertain and plead with folks and if they see their favourite celebrity on the TV asking then they'll get out and help or donate something? Isn't that a bit patronising to us all? It's not as if this is an issue being swept under the rug in the media right now.
Live Aid was about raising awareness about the starving in Ethipoia, which at the time wasn't being focused on enough. Live 8 was about putting public pressure on the world leaders at the G8 summit. Hey, let's all blame Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey for not speaking up about the genocide in Rwanda in the 90s, not Clinton This right here, right now is about getting Bush to send in help immediately. What exactly can the general public and a bunch of celebrities do at this moment? [Edited 9/2/05 13:44pm]

[Edited 9/2/05 13:44pm] its to raise money, period. people get motivated by these performances..the 9/11 event raised billions..those might have been from people who had not thoughts of donating but were moved by the performances.... and i sorry folks but sure prince doesnt have to do anything..its not about "owing" anyone anything..those are stock responces that people are used to giving....the question is; "if prince is in a position to get other people motivated to donate money" what harm is done by him doing it? what harm is in it for him to remain private on this issue too... There's no harm of him contributing but if he didn't, thats up to him. Thats my point!

hm..
if "past history" is any indication, the little purple man MIGHT donate a "throwaway" song (that he did 5+ years ago) from the mythical vault to any type of benefit concert/album/production/etc. I'd be very surprised - shocked, actually - if he did anything more (substantial) than that. prince has ALWAYS been a "control freak"; this, understandably, would explain why he wouldn't want to particpate in any type of "artistic endeavor" in which he would not have 'full control'. if I were that much of a control freak I would not want to participate in a collaborative creative process either. if I were ever an "organizer" or "leader" of any type of "artists relief group"-type thing like "USA For Africa".. I would not even bother to ask prince for a piece of paper. I might even be tempted to.. GO OUT OF MY WAY to say something like "no, we did not even want to approach prince because we know how he usually has been in this type of 'group/collaborative' effort.." I'll keep my defibrulator (I think that's what it's called) nearby in case I need to be shocked back to coherence.. I'll see you tonight..

Some artist do this only 2 improve their profile and get more respect 2 their insignificant careers.

Answer: EVERYTHING THEY CAN. Oh and I don't see Prince skipping over Louisana and Mississippi when he tours. I bet he didn't mind taking tour $$$ from them all these years. I'd ask the same of him that I would any and everyone else: What are you doing to help? If you're not gonna help, say so and I'll change the channel every time I see you and pass up your CDs every time I see them. If there's a benefit concert like this, artists should be begging to play. Is it so bad to ask a muthafucka who plays and sings for money to play and sing for money? Its not like I asked him for the keys to his ride or something. [Edited 9/2/05 14:14pm]

Remember a few years ago when Prince donated some money to the people of Princeville N.C after some flooding. He donates money to a lot of things he just does not publize it. Maybe he has donated money to the Red Cross like lots of other people.
