Talking Heads fans get ready...here come the reissues! Via Pitchforkmedia.com:
In early October, the entire studio catalog of the Talking Heads will be issued in DualDisc format, which has a regular CD on one side and a Dolby 5.1 version on its flip. Each disc-- Talking Heads 77, More Songs About Buildings and Food, Fear of Music, Remain in Light, Speaking in Tongues, Little Creatures, True Stories, and Naked-- is to be issued by Rhino and will feature additional content such as live performances, video, outtakes, and alternate versions of familiar Heads faves-- many of which will be presented as 5.1 mixes.
According to Billboard, highlights from the reissue campaign include video of early live performances of "Pulled Up" and "I Feel It in My Heart" (on 77), an alternate mix of "Burning Down the House" (from Speaking in Tongues), and outtakes such as "Dancing for Money" (Fear of Music) and "Double Groove", "Fela's Riff", "Right Start", and "Unison" (all in various stages of completion; from Remain in Light). In recent years, Rhino has released numerous other Talking Heads collections: The awkwardly designed Once in a Lifetime box set, self-explanatory primer The Best of Talking Heads, and the long-overdue digital bow of the band's "other" live record, a recently expanded version of The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads.

that was already released a few years back...or at least, a very significantly expanded version complete with the tom tom club material.

"the name of this band is talking heads" came out last year, with TONS of newly dug-up live material on it. in a lot of ways, i think it's superior to 'stop making sense' - the funk is certainly a lot more raw.

this is the reason i don't own a copy of 'speaking in tongues' on CD...i've been waiting...for years!...to have a nicely remastered copy with proper liner notes and the whole deluxe reissue treatment. i only bought "fear of music" and "remain in light" a couple of years ago because i'd never owned the full albums and i was curious to hear what some of the songs i'd never heard sounded like.
talking heads was one of the groups i kinda grew up with. when i was a kid and my parents divorced, my mom shared her "stash" of music memorabilia with me that she had hidden from my father when they were married. my dad detested rock music, and my mother, well...she had always lived for the beatles, hendrix, zappa, and whatever was going on in pop music that was fun and different. so when my parents got married and my dad forced my mom to give away all her albums (imagine - having to get rid of ALL the beatles' albums on vinyl...original US pressings...and old who records, and hendrix, and the byrds, and mothers of invention...), my mom started to hide clippings from magazines in a drawer...then she would start to hide albums in that drawer...and by the time they divorced, my mom had quite the little collection! one thing i remember was that my mom had cut out several articles about the talking heads and david byrne. this was around '79, they hadn't really made it big yet. but mom thought david byrne was weird looking and she thought they sounded like an interesting band that she'd like to hear. and eventually, when 'speaking in tongues' came out, she finally got into them. when 'stop making sense' came out on video, we'd rent it over and over. we never really got into the older stuff, but when a new talking heads single or album came out, even if we didn't always buy it, we were always interested to hear what they were up to. in recent years, i've been more interested in the talking heads' old stuff - the music i missed out on when i was little - but i'm very excited to be reunited with their later albums on these reissues. bring 'em on!

Me too. I fell in love with the later albums a long time ago but it's always the older albums I go back to. You can't beat Talking Heads' Holy Trinity: Fear Of Music, Remain In Light and Speaking In Tongues. Amazing, every one of them. Making Flippy Floppy

Making Flippy Floppy until i finally heard 'the name of this band is talking heads' last year, i never really appreciated what a great funk band talking heads was, especially when they brought in some of the funk musicians to play with them and chris and tina were starting to create their tom tom club project. there's some stuff on 'the name of this band is...' that is downright scary.

Damn, I've got to get that on cd now! I've got 'The Name Of This Band...' on tape but I've been holding out for the reissue. Thanks for reminding me, Anxiety. After Kate, now this - all I need is Prince or Bowie to issue some album news and I'll go to bed a happy man tonight.

Cool! I look forward to hearing it; I remember the original thread you created about a year ago. Cheers.

I used to own pretty much every Heads album back in the day. "(Nothing But) Flowers" is such a great lyric. Was Johnny Marr just on that track, or did he play on the whole album?

i don't think he was on the whole album, but i seem to remember he was on more than one track...i could be wrong on this, i'll have to pull out the ol' liner notes...
