Sly's other albums ":High On You" & "Small Talk"

I've been listening to Sly's Anthology cd and I was just wondering how these other albums are of his.

I've heard them because my friend has the vinyls. Those albums are funky and good for sure.

The quad mixes of both albums are interesting. In many cases, there are different takes and longer versions. The quad mix of "Crossword Puzzle" has possibly the worst drumming ever committed to vinyl! The drummer (and I'm guessing it's Sly) drops the sticks halfway through!

I always thought that "High on You" was a pretty funky album!!!very underrated!! "Small Talk" was a little more uneven to me, but it does have Mother Beautiful, Time for Livin' and "Loose Booty", one of Sly's funkiest jams! IMO, these two records are the last great Sly albums....

I would beg to differ...at least when it comes to Small Talk.

I like this album waaaaay better than Fresh.

The songs are loose and you feel as if a lot of them were done in one take.

The conversational interludes are also cool.

They have their moments....

I'm glad you mentioned those conversations in the beginning of some of the songs on Small Talk. I discovered that album 10 yrs. ago and enjoyed it ever since.
One of the songs, the beginning of BETTER THEE THAN ME it sounds like Sly is telling somebody to "cut that Sh*t out" and then laughs. Yeah that's Sly. It has a more laid back vibe (he just got married to Kathy Silva, started a family). High on You is funky and edited kinda weird or bad (songs that sound like they were suppose to start seconds before they come on). Both albums are truly underrated but it has Sly's funk stamp on it.

"Small Talk" is the shit! You can definetly hear where D'angelo stole his string arrangements from cuts like "Mother Beautiful". "Loose Booty" is the jam also.

Exactly!

What about the interlude at the beginning of "Livin' While I'm Livin'" when you can hear Freddy or Rusty say "You at got d#@n lie!"
