Dark Side of the Moon..........

has been voted the best rock album of all time.

http://www.sky.com/skynew...91,00.html

what do you think?
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

I think it isn't. It's a cool album with very good, classic
tracks but it's not the best rock album of all time.

The Wall, baby.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I think to be the BEST rock album it has to be appealing to the entire world, not just the UK.

The Wall is an amazing piece of sophisicated art. I'm Canadian and I worship it.

LoL
You are forgiven your Canadian citizenship. So you can't help yourself. It's okay. Embrace it.

there is no such thing as the best rock album of all time.
what would be defined as a rock album?? I don't consider
DarkSideOfTheMoon to be a rock album for example. However,
I do consider Transformer to be a rock album, which is imo
a zillion lightyears better than DarkSideOfTheMoon.

than again, Exile on Main St is cool, but so is Revolver,
and so is Unknown Pleasures. But what is rock? Could you
nominate OK Computer for that category? or Blood on The
Tracks / After The Gold Rush??

I think those lists are silly. Someone has to be nr 1 or
there would be no "list", but with all due respect, i just
like the lists because they list great albums, and don't
really look at what's number one.

i should point out that it is the "Nations" favourite rock album.
Its a British poll.

it's certainly a rock album by a rock band, the genre of rock covers a very wide spectrum, so coldplay and joni mitchel would b considered rock. compared 2 the other titles listed, which r more "hard rock", it is a lot less rockier (this sounds a bit like nick mason talking on the pompeii movie)

the main problem with most of these polls carried out by the general public, is that most of the general public won't have even heard the top 100 albums, nevermind own them, so any voted is biased and made without full consideration of all the other potential options (personally i find i normally have at least 90% of titles in most of these polls, if not everything, so i can make a well informed opinion)

in this case, listeners 2 a digital radio station called "planet rock" have voted. i doubt many true knowledgable music fans r going 2 b listening 2 that station, digital radio has comparitively few listeners 2 FM radio due 2 the costs and awful sound quality. in the uk, radio 4 has the highest broadcast quality, and that is half the quality required 2 come close 2 matching FM.

personally i'm not 2 surprised it made the top 100 rock albums of all time. whether it is or not, is another story

ok computer would fit in2 the category of rock, as would neil youngs albums, but ok computer only has 7 years since its realease and considerably less sales than over 30 years of sales by DSOTM

personally i prefer wish u were here myself, and ok computer certainly is 1 of the greatest albums of all time and should b in there along with exile on main street and london calling. appetite 4 destruction is an interesting but perhaps deserved inclusion in the top 10, i presume dominated by voters of a slightly older age group, who would b more likly 2 listen 2 rock stations on DAB, and take the time 2 vote in polls. pearl jam is a surprising choice, coming far higher than nevermind by nirvana. i wonder how much of floyds sucess in the poll has been influenced by live 8

1. Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
2. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV
3. Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous
4. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
5. AC/DC - Back In Black
6. Guns N Roses - Appetite For Destruction
7. Meatloaf - Bat Out Of Hell
8. Deep Purple - In Rock
9. Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
10. Pearl Jam - Ten
