I'd like to hear from the young music fans out there, the 25 and younger fans. What did you guys think?

I mean, I'm 35 and I thought it sucked ass but I am also fortunate to have witness some great award shows in my day - so I'm judging it based on the past.

I'm 21 and all I can say is that I don't think I'll ever watch VMA's again. What a waste of time.

First of all-- WTF is up these commercials? It becomes ridiculous! I mean every 10 minutes there was a 5 min commercial break. What about the NEW MUISC SPECIAL or sth like that) ads during the white carpet? I know MTV gotta make money but that was way over the top.

Second of all--Everything from DIDDY's 'Now I'm a stand-up clown' phase to RKelly's one-man-mime-fest was BORING, and deeply saddening when compared to the great award shows I remember from my childhood.

However, the biggest disappointment was Mariah. She def has some kind of vocal nodules. She sounded very bad and looked terrified, insecure. What the hell happened to the girl that rocked VMA's in 91 with her confident and powerful rendition of Emotions???
neutral

I enjoyed Shakira's performance though. The rest of it was crap

Yeah, Skakira's and Alejandro's performance was the only one I even saw, and I thought they were great.

I didn't see Mariah, but based on past performance, the woman definitely has vocal nodules. The really needs to address coz whether she has surgery or not, her voice is gonna be shot if she keeps "belting" like that.

Plus, I heard that Kelly Clarkson has nodules too,or has severely strained her voice in the past??? These "belt" singers had better take care or learn some breathing/vocal technique coz they are gonna lose their voices.

She's usually pretty good. I'm glad she won two awards. She's definately not your average "American Idol" anymore!

Mariah was aiight..but what was with the background vocals halfway drowning her out?

I thought the xact same thing, but after we all started laughing when Mariah turned around and revealed she couldn't zip her dress up, every1 had 4gotten the point I was trying 2 make.

Xcellent point. See also: Whitney Houston. That woman completely destroyed her instrument by not taking care of it.

Green Day sells out, once again.

I don't think they are that bad but they might not be punk. The singles from the last album don't rock that much but the lyrics aren't bad. They are good pop songs.

Then again, look at my taste. Take my avatar, for example.

These performances were just a reflection of the music out right now. Amateurs. Even pro singers like Mariah and Kelly C. sounded horrible. WTF? Are they trying to lose ratings?

Puffy was Rude...VMA had Go-Go Music

Okay...no one was really paying attention and Puffy's gay ass didn't even mention who the band was... (fucked up considering he went to Howard U). When Ludacris and Bobby Valentino were on stage, if you listened carefully and peeped the band behind them, that was DC's own Rare Essence. They are a Go-Go band that have been around since the golden ages of the genre. They kind of added so much of an international theme that they allowed African Drummers on stage in order to enhance the sound. Lot's of us people from the DC area were pretty excited because we seldom see people from our city getting any recognition or appearing on any show. I only wish they allowed Amerie to do "One Thing (Trippin)" since the producer is from the area as well. Go-Go Music is an incarnation of every type of music with a lot of synchopated rhythms and percussion for those who didn't know

Watching news men and women get blown around by hurricane Katrina was more entertaining than the few seconds I saw of the VMA's.
Most award shows today, with the exceptional bright spot here and there, are mind-numbingly lame.

the reason why the vma awards sucked this year and last year is because there were no big stars there and no memorable moments. they NEED michael and madonna there. or even janet jackson, britney spears, and eminem and a lot of the people that showed up to the vmas from 2001 - 2003 and they need more variety other then rappers and hip hop performing, or the worst, punk bands, that shit is so boring i cant even watch. they need more shocking performances that are memorable like britney madonna kiss, britneys striptease perfomance, and michael jacksons 1995 performance. and they need more shocking moments like the michael jackson brithday award and lil kims purple suit. something thats fun and memorable. i hate to say this as it might offend some people but the hip hop that has taken over has ruined the awards. 2 or 3 perofmances are great, cos the performances need to be varied, but not 3 quarters of the performances

Shes just trying too hard, she was so concoius of how she was standing or sitting and the pouty silly expression on her face that she wasnt giving a damn about the singing. to be fair though, except not really, that was a hard song to sing, very fast, but she should thought o that before she recorded it guess!

I dunno, she used to be able to SING live. Now she's all outta breath, like she can't catch it. She was like that on the BET Awards too. You're right - too much time on poses & bullshitting, she needs to concentrate on her voice. No pose is gonna save those chipmunk cheeks neutral

did u all catch the interview n i think Rolling stone where jamiee fox was asked
his most memorable moment of last yr, i think it was he said destiny's child on BET and how they didn't even help her up?

if u all were watching the VMA's when DC and Jamiee were presenting, kelly spoke he didn't say a thing, Michelle spoke he answered B spoke nothing, he is still on Michelle's side. very cool. loved that moment.

I didn't watch and won't watch any repeats. Last years show was so awful I'm just scared of the whole network now.

Just out of curiosity, anything worth watching this year?

I dont think the VMA's were that bad. Certainly they were better than last year's, which sucked donkey nuts. Granted, I did expect a little more from Coldplay, Mariah and The Killers, but Green Day fucking rocked, and Shakira, My Chemical Romance and Kelly Clarkson were pretty cool(tho apparently im in the minority over Kelly's performance). I just think that MTV needs to stick with what works and stop experimenting: Have Chris Rock or someone as funny host in the forthcoming years and leave it in NYC.

It would help to have more memorable moments, like the Britney-Madonna kiss. My favorite year of the VMAs, personally, was the 99 awards. Chris Rock was off the fucking hook, and there were so many people there. Hell, even Paul McCartney, Diana Ross and David Bowie appeared.

Hopefully by next year, with Madonna coming out with an album, as well as Christina and hopefully Janet and Justin, the awards will be slammin

All in all, I'd rate the 05 VMAs a C
