I turned it on to just turn if off again 1/2 hour later.. It was horrible...Between Jamie Fox obviously being wasted off his ass, trying to grope Missy Elliot and Ciera while they were taking the stage, 90% of the show feeling like it ONLY hip hop, MC Hammer and his tie wrapped around his head trying to be gangsta... to the FINALE of R Kelly doing a lip-syncing, BAD theatrical skit on stage.. I had to turn it off... What happened to the days of the good ol MTV music awards??

I'd like to hear from the young music fans out there, the 25 and younger fans. What did you guys think?

I mean, I'm 35 and I thought it sucked ass but I am also fortunate to have witness some great award shows in my day - so I'm judging it based on the past.

I'm 21 and all I can say is that I don't think I'll ever watch VMA's again. What a waste of time.

First of all-- WTF is up these commercials? It becomes ridiculous! I mean every 10 minutes there was a 5 min commercial break. What about the NEW MUISC SPECIAL or sth like that) ads during the white carpet? I know MTV gotta make money but that was way over the top.

Second of all--Everything from DIDDY's 'Now I'm a stand-up clown' phase to RKelly's one-man-mime-fest was BORING, and deeply saddening when compared to the great award shows I remember from my childhood.

However, the biggest disappointment was Mariah. She def has some kind of vocal nodules. She sounded very bad and looked terrified, insecure. What the hell happened to the girl that rocked VMA's in 91 with her confident and powerful rendition of Emotions???
neutral

I enjoyed Shakira's performance though. The rest of it was crap

You would think at 42 I wouldn't still be such a sucker for award shows, but unfortunately, I am.

The show sucked last night. I think it was the worst MTV awards show I've ever seen. Diddy was god damn embarrassing and most of the performances sucked ass.

Whatever that was from R. Kelly was a disgrace. It was so bad I could barely watch it. WTF was he thinking and why would anyone at MTV let him get up there and do shit like that. It was just plain awful. MC Hammer's performance was so short and he sounded terrible. His brief performance was laughable. Jessica looked like a total skank.

The only positive comments I have are.....

Shakira was quite good and I'm not a big fan either.
Green Day gave the best performance and showed what real music is instead of lip-syncing drama from most of the others.

On a scale of 1-10 I give this show a 1. It was god damn awful!

i didn't see it. i was out watching a real performer, um, sing. you know, performers used to do that regularly! lol

but, really guys, what did you expect. if you want good music to return to mtv, stop watching these awful shows and supporting the network. they have no reason to change if you watch whatever they air. shrug

I felt like an old man watching this show and I'm 26. I remember asking my mom if we could go to my great grandparents house to watch the VMA's cause they were the only ones with MTV and Prince was going to perform there for the first time in. I remember enjoying Madonna's performing Express Yourself a couple of years later and seeing folks like Janet, Lenny, Nirvana, Metallica and many more kick ass on the VMA's. It dawned on me watching it that we'll never see folks rock out like that again. It's a sad sad day for music.

Yeah, something is up with Mariah. She didn't look comfortable and she didn't sound relaxed.
Shakira was great (as always).

Whoever thought that Diddy would make a great host for the show need to be fired.

I covered my eyes through half of that shit. I was embarassed for him. They need to send him to jail already.

She looked more like a skunk. She needs to fire her stylist.

You're kinder than me with that. It gets a big fat 0 and that might be too kind.

There was one good thing about the show. Seeing Beavis and Butthead again. That was the funniest part of the night. The only time it was funny.

Yeah, maybe I was too kind, but I still enjoyed Green Day. They were the only musical act worth seeing last night. I still can't get over R. Kelly! What rubbish. I have to stifle laughter every time I think of it.

Green Day and Shakira weren't bad but for all the years of the show that was absolutely not the best. I see I 'm not the only one who laughs at the R Kelly skit. Me and a friend of mine visitng me watche the R Kelly skit and we just looked at each other like WTF! That just proves to me that Kells has truly lost his mind.

Anybody who sings a one-man sonnet is naturally gonna look crazy. LOL! I liked his performance mainly because it was funny. It dont matter to me that he lip-synched it though.

The R. Kelly thing was weird - reminded me of old 70s variety shows where they would act-out the songs in little plays... bizarre.

I'm gonna go to mtv.com and see if there is a "Feedback" forum - that show both sucked and blew simultaneously.

Do you really think their gonna care compared to the millions of 14-years-old who will say they enjoyed the awards show?

Did they? Is that what the feedback forum says? Maybe they complained about the show also because there weren't enough Real World/Pimp My Ride/Date My Mom awards.
