Whitney Houston Appreciation Thread

it seems as though the same thing that has happened to Michael has befallen Whitney(i mean the lgeal problems not vitiligo disbelief ) the media just seems to hound her with evrything thats going on with her and Bobby and stuff. but ppl often Forget how great she is. Whitney is probably one of the greatest female voices of all time, no one (no, not even that lip synching screamer Mariah rolleyes ) can match her vocal ability and the amazing R&b she puts out. her debut album should go down as the best in history + the Bodyguard is also one of the best soundtracks i have evr heard ( i will always loooove yoooouuuuu ) yet all i see is a public & a media so hungry to see a star go down. im sure on even on this thread someone will say some shit like "Whitney is a tired old has been" rolleyes disbelief all whitney needs is one good song, just one good song and she will blow evryone away and regain her title as the Queen of R&b woot!

I agree. I never was one of her biggest fans but you have to give credit where credit is due. She truly has one of the most talented voices of the last few decades and I also hope she can find some good writers and producers and have the support of her label so she can get back the success she had before.

Sure she has an amazing voice but she over does it. She's like the singing equivalent of those super fast 80's guitar players like who play fast just to show off, and in a lot of cases it spoils the songs. I prefer Bobby Brown

She has an extremely beautiful quality to her soft voice and has incredible power as well. Have you checked out her live at the Grammys on her dvd singing 'One Moment in Time'? Cheesy '80s song but she blows the roof off the building on a few notes!!

I adore the quality of her voice, she can say more in one note than most singers ever can.

Her spectacular downfall has been baffling. The Bodyguard soundtrack was so huge she really could have done whatever she wanted. I think people reach a certain level of fame where they lose touch with reality, she has that in common with MJ. I also think once they've acheived what they have, what else is there? Another hit record? Been there, done that.

...and then Mariah Carey & Celine Dion came along to take Whitney's spot away from her as new pop vocal divas.

As if Whitney not being about to dance like dancing divas Janet, Madonna, or Kylie wasn't bad enough....

I remember when Mariah first hit in 1990 I was like "Whitney is so over" and then she came back with one of the biggest selling records of all time. I don't even see Celine in the same frame but sure, Mariah and Celine were both working their asses off in the '90s.

They are a different animal altogether. They should be considered as 'vocalists' in the same way Whitney should be considered 'a dancer' lol

I adore Whitney, everytime I listen to her old material....it does make me feel a bit sad about her story.

I still love the bitch, even though she's a big figure in music.....she still keeps it ghetto. cool

I used to work out to "one moment in time" sometimes. Its a good workout song.

She really, really, belts out that one. I cant hear it on my hifi, as next door will complain as I have to play it loud to get the full experience.

the show made me a fan again. she's hilarious, fun, free. she's just herself. i can see how it might look embarrassing, but i think it's made her even more endearing after the last several years.

I think the real Whitney is a mix of "Say No" and "Hell To the Nah". No one can be that "real" or fake.

I actually never liked fake Whitney but just stated getting into her recently. "My Love..." is a great album while "Just Whitney" is a bad follow up. Ghetto Whitney is great but she is scary when she's with Bobby. I don't see her making it to 50 and if she does, she'll be a damn mess!

Oh god, talk about losing touch with reality!
I'm surprised Diane Sawyer didn't ask "Are you on drugs, right now??"

She's a great singer but dang she has some 'issues' to put it mildly

Kylie isn't a dancer.

check out any of her performances and most of the time it's her making a few gestures and people dancing around her

I dont think whitney will ever return to her former glory, this isnt just a mariah/michael style bad patch, this is a complete physical and mental breakdown, she's totally lost it.

Her music is brilliant tho, her greatest hits album shows that she has had an amazing career filled with great songs and she is a great vocalist.

Unfortunately people like Mariah Carey have surpassed her in every way, mariah is the better singer, she is the better artist, mariah writes her own stuff, her albums have an artistic vision (whether u like it or not) and she has developed from her debut through Music Box to Daydream/Butterfly to Rainbow/Glitter and i think the Emancipation of Mimi is sort of like a round up of all the stuff she has done in the past.

But again its all down to personal preferences, some people like Hero others The greatest love of all, some people like We belong together others my love is your love. personally i like em both, but mariah tops whitney every time.
