Ive always had a certain respect for Gloria Estefan. She has a killer voice and as far as dance music goes, she can rip a new asshole into you. Just listen to "Heavens What I Feel" or her version of "Turn the Beat Around" and you'll see what I mean.

With that said, alot of her slow numbers are sappy as fuck. Too adult contemporary for me.

She actually came here to my city during her Unwrapped tour. I didnt go,but my parents did. I heard she did a fantastic job, tho the show wasn't completely packed.

The Magically Mysterious Adventures of Noelle the Bulldog
by Gloria Estefan
Illustrated by Michael Garland

Book Description

For a young bulldog named Noelle, the joy of being adopted by her very own little girl is overshadowed by the worry that she won't fit in to her wonderful new home. What can an odd-looking brown pup possibly have to offer ina world where shimmering fish, glittering fireflies, and beautiful Dalmatians play games that Noelle's short legs can barely keep up with?

Five-time GRAMMY® Award-winning singer-songwriter Gloria Estefan's first book for children is a heartwarming story. Exuberantly illustrated by Michael Garland, it captures all the worry of an outsider trying to fit in -- and all the joy of discovering that everyone has a talent that matters, and that true beauty comes from inside.

An impressive resume. I would totally disagree with saying she is as "harmless as Jessica Simpson". Gloria writes or co-writes her songs and probably is not just involved with lyrics (now I know that Jessica is also a co-writer of her material, but most of her known material is written for her or covers). Gloria isn't just a singer but a songwriter, musican, performer and has a very pleasant personality which comes off in her music. She sells her songs with more than just a voice.

no, it's just where she looked when the camera shot. i have more pics from this event. emilio was asked to produce the "evita" soundtrack, but couldn't, due to prior engagements. (so i've read a few times) madonna and gloria apparently are close enough friends*. also i believe there was a duet, rumoured, between the two. wink

*Marc Fest: Do you hang out with some of the other famous people here, like Stallone or Madonna?

Gloria Estefan: We’ve seen Stallone on several occasions. We run into eachother all the time. Mostly high profile things. Madonna comes over to the house for dinner sometimes quietly and the babies play and stuff.

more here if you wanna read. biggrin

i have a total love hate/thing for gloria; i loved her music when i was young (and i still do, partcularly her spanish langauge albums)..once i was an adult met her a zillion times and even went her infamous yearly christmas parties in miami; she's a complete hoot, incredibly funny, witty, off-color and once made me choke on a chicken finger because i was laughing so hard at her jokes about jon secada's catering at a party we were at in his house on The Beach...despite of all that, she and her husband have run the miami music scene for years like fascist dictators, with emilio even once threatening to ruin the careers of friends of mine if they didn't let him buy out a hit song they had written for his record label and name himself as excutive producer and songwriter....for like a measley 10 grand split 50/50 between them...and we're talking for an artist that could push at least 1.5 million units worldwide....it was really ugly business dealing with them...it always made it kinda hard for me to sit and watch gloria on shows like "lifetime's intimate portrait" sitting amongst scented candles being the portrait of absolute serenity, while in the meantime my friends were getting threatened in contract meetings at crescent moon...

Wow....that's some scandalous stuff right there lol

Emilio seems to be a shady character, huh? I recall a few years ago, some guy (yes,a guy) was suing him for sexual harrassment! Not sure what became of this case.

They probably settled, or, knowing how Estefan Enterprises usually handles underlings, threatened the hell out of him until he didn't have the balls to stand up for himself...notice how only recently Emilio wanders around town with a bodyguard; not because he's the highest on the list of Miami celebrities---it's 'cause their business practices towards South Floridian artists are shady as HELL. For all the jokes and stories people have about Prince screwing over his employees and co-horts, I guarantee there are SCORES of people who have been burned by the Estefans that can put a few of the Prince stories to shame. And having spent time in BOTH camps as a mere fly on the wall, trust me when I say I am not speculating neutral...

That being said, I always loved that song "Anything for You"...that was one of her great pop songwriting masterpeieces, and I like both the English and Spanish versions wink

that would defintiely explain why he was called "the mafia" at an awards ceremony a couple years ago. i think it was on Premio Lo Nuestro. he and Gloria were seated in the front row, and the host (i think it was Don Francisco) said something to the effect of "hey the Estefans' are here. also known as the cuban mafia." lol
