F¤%k, I just spent all my money on CDs again... Why is internet shopping made so damn easy? This means my bank account will be on zero for the rest of the month. And there's a couple of really promising new releases coming up in the following months. Can't help it. Don't even remember all the names of the bands whose albums I just ordered.
Anyone else share my problem? Anyone else find it hard to grow up into a responsible, mature adult with a fine sense of finances? But there's so much good music out there!

somewhat related...
I went to Target yesterday, expecting to buy just a few basic things I needed. But I ended up buying Season Five of "Good Times" and Season Three of "What's Happening" on DVD.I had totally forgotten that these DVDs had been released. [Edited 8/26/05 5:34am]

I'm on vacation, so yesterday I wandered off to the indie shop down the street with the intent of browsing a little and spending no more than $20 on a few 2nd hand records. Instead I walked out with two boxed sets that came to a little more than $120.
I don't feel too badly about it though - I lead a fairly low overhead life which leaves room for the occasional explosion of indulgence. Music is the only area where I allow myself to cut loose, and I usually keep it within reason. I try not to spend more than $150 per month, though I just doubled that amount for August with yesterday's spree. And I really wanted both of these sets (The Fall Peel Sessions and Wire's first three albums packaged together). I know both bands very well (I already have the wire albums, but the box set has significantly better sound and different bonus tracks than the releases I own), so there's no concern that I won't enjoy the music or anything. There - I just totally justified my actions. I refuse to feel guilty about this.

Yeah. I never go eat at restaurants, ride the cab, or order more than one or two glasses of coke when I go out night time. Most folks I know who do that always say they don't have the money to spend on music and download everything from the web instead. I think it's just a matter of priorities.

Yeah I bought alot of CDs earlier this year on eBay and Amazon. I found myself getting behind on my credit card payments.
When my friends and I go out on shopping binges, I sometimes ask them what we're "really looking for". Sometimes I think shopping therapy can be a signal of something wrong, just like a dependence on alcohol.

I'm quite terrible about this. Even when I'm all but broke.

Anyone else share my problem? Anyone else find it hard to grow up into a responsible, mature adult with a fine sense of finances? But there's so much good music out there! Yeah, tell me about it. I just went on a Prince & Company spending spree via ebay: boots, lps, dvds. I'm usually VERY good about managing the $$, but I just finished grad school and figure what's $200 more compared to all the student loans I have to pay back over the next 30 years!! The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

[Edited 8/26/05 5:34am] Gasp....Circuit City had them for $19.99 and Target was selling them for $24.99, which is like their regular price...Damn, damn, damn! I just bought Season four of "Good Times" and I don't want to say that the sole purpose was just to see and hear that moment again (and own it forever, but that's part of it). I have no idea how much I spend on CDs and DVDs this summer....hell, just this month I went completely nuts but it's OK because I was making a bunch of money. But I did spend way too much.... This is unreal! i was going to start a thread on how easy the internet makes it to buy cds!
i think i purchase at a faster rate than i did when i made my bi-weekly trip to the record store. it might be because whenever i got to the record store i forgot whatever it was i was looking for. But after reading a good review on the internet, it's easy to just stroll on over to amazon listen to a couple of samples and throw that shit into your cart then i'll get to looking at some other releases throw that shit into my cart and chaaaaarge it!!

That's exactly what I've been thinking too all the time. Like, "Fuck it! This loan is meant for living expenses! CDs are living expenses, right?
