Does dope change ur music tastes? As a previous smoker of dope (years ago now), i did listen to different music. When I came off it, i sorta reverted back into my childhood music and expanded from there.
So for me personally, it may seem it made a difference to a certain extent.

there was one time, a long time ago, when i went to a party and got a little and retreated to a room by myself and listened to a skinny puppy album, and it sounded like The Best Music Ever Recorded In The History Of Everything, Amen.
i don't really dig the whole dope thing, though, mainly because i don't think it's a social drug and people seem to think that it's only a social drug, even though it just makes folks sit around and stare at the walls and get paranoid about each other. then you wanna go to sleep. uh..."whee". i can see how it can enhance what you're listening to, but it's not really a route i take. if i need drugs to appreciate an album, the band isn't doing its job well enough. or something like that.

Thats why I stopped doing it. I left my merry men of ever so increasinly boring mates and just started a fresh. Thats all my mates were doing all day. Iam very, very grateful I got out of it before becoming maybe too hooked. Shame as my mates prior to dope were cool, but then became so different (as I was) and now, years later, i hope they have grown out of the bordom confort that was dope smoking to them (this was to an excessive degree)

Last time I got high (which happens about once every 5 years or so), I heard "All Is Full of Love" by Bjork and thought it was brilliant. I listened again the next day and still liked it, so I guess my musical tastes r uneffected when under the influence. Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

Very well put. And on top of that pee in their pants in front of everybody, but that's another story (weed weakens bladder control for a lot of individuals). But I do it from time to time with my musical collegues, in live improvisation situations. You just hear things you wouldn't hear when sober or drunk and feel the music in such a physical way that I'd almost recommend trying it a few times to everybody ("Shame on you, Novabreaker! ") On top of everything, cannabis actually makes even reggae sound good!

You just get more involved in what you're listening to.

Vespertine - yeah, I can imagine that. The music on that disc was created by an IDM group called Matmos, whose music is a blast when stoned. You really should check them out, one of my favourite groups ever. Changed my life back in the day.

When I smoked I had a bit more patience longer & weirder stuff (I found everything more interesting for that matter--watching the grass grow, watching myself get older, watching my money not exist).
Now I still like that, but I need more surface stuff--melody, chord changes, lyrics with meaning. But for the most part, I tend to think that pot opened up something in my brain that didn't close when I stopped smoking. Check this song out at:

So for me personally, it may seem it made a difference to a certain extent. i've never used drugs of any kind (though i do drink for religious reasons) i did grow up in a drug using house (not in a bad way or anything, i just had a lot of hippies in my family) but most of the music i listen to could be consiodered drug music. I'm a huge fan of the Grateful Dead for instance. it's the music i feel the biggest connection with.. if i used drugs, then maybe i'd start listening to crappy pop like britney spears. Last time I indulged (right after 9/11) on a train ride from NY to Ohio, I broke down after listening to Eva Cassidy's version of Sting's "Fields of Gold."
I must admit that whenever I was , song lyrics that I thought I knew (or didn't know), become clear, i.e., Sly & the Family Stone's "Thankyoufaletinmebemicelf." The part where Sly growls "different strokes, for different folks"--I NEVER knew what he was saying. The Scandalous Suite was AWESOME first time I heard while . Other "fun" moments...70s--listening to Yes, Led Zeppelin and trying to read Funkadelic album covers.

..and Sade's "Diamond Life" when it first came out was one of those albums that was smooth whether or not.
