Nik kershaw

Ok, I've done a thread on him before, but I just picked up his 1989's "the works" album. It is by far his best album. It also seems to be pretty rare. So I was lucky to find it dirt cheap in a random charity shop.

I love "the riddle" etc... but really love tracks like "cowboys and indians" "lady on the phone" etc..... I found out peter wolf produced most of this album (remember him?)

Great lil' album, that unfortunately, seems to be truly obscure.

I Loved The Works, although IMO, 1986's Radio Musicola was his best album...(That one might be more obscure than "The Works"):

But Yeah, I agree, The Works is a great undiscovered album.... Cowboys and Indians, Don't Ask Me, Elizabeth's Eyes....I love those...Kool trax!!...

Over here, that album proberly isn't too hard to find. After all, he was bigger in UK then US.

I'll keep an eye out for any of his albums. I only got "the riddle" on single.

Iam surprised u heard of him. I had no idea he had a hit or hits in america? Was he a one hit wonder. I could see "wouldn't it be good" (his most commerical song) being a hit.

As for "the works", iam really getting into it. Just for the production alone, its gorgeous.

Yeah, he never got big over here, but there are a handful of devoted fans around...

...I actually read about him before I actually heard his music...back in '85, I was reading an article on Nik, In the interview, they asked what some of his favorite records were...he started naming records by Peter Gabriel, Miles Davis, Steely Dan, Pat Metheny, Level 42...basically, everybody that I was into, lol ....so I knew I had to check him out...I bought The Riddle (which Featured Level 42's Mark King playing Bass on the song, "Easy") and became an instant fan!

I love Jeff Porcaro's (The late Toto drummer) Drums on "Cowboys and Indians", especially at the end, it's almost like gunfire!

I also love the Horn arrangements on "Don't Ask Me"....

WOW. Ur right. I kept a casual eye for that when I listened to it on headphones just before beddie bye. And the drums at the end of "cowboys and indains" are great.

But the credits claim jeff is only on "walkabout"

"i'll be around, one day, gunslung civilians I'll be around, we'll play, cowboys and indians".

Love that song.
