Lil Mo speaks on singers and alleged beef with Keyshia Cole

http://blackvoices.aol.co...2109990001

"Nobody is real anymore! Singers are afraid to sing," began Mo. "Most of them are more concerned with dancing instead of singing. These chicks can't stand alone, either, because most of them have their CEOs in their music video."

Mo says the reason for the current state of "watered down R&B" is "a lot of hip-hop men are behind the singers now." She continued: "They're only concerned with putting out a hot track and having their singers dance. But most of them can't even perform these songs live. At the rate we're at now, we're not going to have any more Gladys Knights, Patti LaBelles and Aretha Franklins."

The Roun'Table/Cash Money Records artist adds there are some singers who "still saaang" and Fantasia, Faith Evans, Monica and Mary J. Blige are among those she credits. "My dream tour would be to go out on the road with Fantasia and Faith. I rock with both of them hard," she said.

The Baltimore-bred belter admits she could do without many of the other girls out now. "I see some of them and ask where is Ashanti when you need her," laughed Mo.

We asked Mo about her rumored beef with newcomer Keyshia Cole that apparently began after Mo made similar comments about new singers on the syndicated Star & Buc Wild Morning Show. "I was in New York at Dream Hotel preparing to do a show. She saw my manager Phil Thornton (of Bright Star Entertainment) and my stylist in the lobby and asked them what they were doing there. When they said they were there to see me, she said, 'You all are traitors. She is the enemy.' Then she stormed off. I heard she was drunk, so I brushed it off and blamed it on the alcohol," recalled Mo.

Mo will drop her junior album 'Syndicated (The Lil' Mo Hour)' in late Sept. and then headline the Seagram's Gin Live national tour later this fall. "If you're tired of being hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray and run amuck, then come see my live show. There's no lip-synching on this tour. It's all live, baby!"

I have no problems with Lil Mo, but in my honest opinion she can't even compare to Keisha Cole. Sounds like jealousy to me.

I haven't heard any of Keisha Cole's work but Lil Mo can sing and I'm glad she's telling the truth about this. Unless some MAJOR changes happen soon, we'll never see a great R&B singer, male or female, again.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I've only seen her video 'over and over' and I can't really tell yet if this girl has talent or not but - I expected her to have some and definitely be more mature than that since she's Alcia Keys artist (or at least that's what I heard)--- I have seen LIL Mo a couple of times (from B-More) and she definitely gives a hell of a live show - her energy on stage is similar to Mary J. Blige in my opinion.

Its kind of true and sad actually. The kids today really dont have any kind of legacy and it seems like the music business isn't concerned with trying to make any legacies either. Even when the singers can really sing (even just a little) it's almost always overshadowed by "T and A".

I dont think Lil Mo is sayin that Keyshia cant sing; she's just explain a situation involving her being drunk and talkin about her. I even remember days back when Mary J Blige was a heavy drinker - she almost got into it with Veronica Webb and took a compliment made by Faith as a diss.

Lil Mo is a way better vocalist than Keyshia, Lil Mo can saaaaang! Keyshia can sing too, but her tone turns me completely off. Her voice sounds hoarse & when she gets into her "runs" is when it really gets bad because they don't come off smooth & precise. It sound like her voice is about to give out.

Keyshia Cole can wipe the floor with Brandy and Monica! They can even compete with Keyshia's voice.

I don't get it myself. Her voice is okay but the songs just make me hit the dial (admittedly I think I've only heard one of her songs, but how can you tell when they all have the same vacuous, boring as fuck sound?) neutral

Wow. lil Mo is on point about singers and rap producers backing them. A lot of these dudes even think they actually need to be there in order for their artist to get props. Vain assholes. They have virtually snatched the music biz out from under the musicians. The funny thing is that its all hype. Artists nowadays sell more records off hype than anything else. I respect both Keisha and Lil Mo as singers although i think Mo has more skills. Keisha gets a little pitchy live. Mo can hold it down with any of the "neo soul' so-called real vocalists. Some people judge the vocalist according to the material they are doing instead of just LISTENING to them.
As for her beef with Keisha, sounds like so he-said-she-said ish to me. I'd like to see them settle their beef in a nice lady-like fashion.

IN JELL-O! evillol
