You should definitely listen to the rest of that album, it all goes together, it works well together as a whole.

Iris is what made me stop paying attention to this group. God, it's horrible! Yall don't see that? Goo Goo dolls were around for years before this song, and suddenly they became a carbon copy of all the other watered-down matchbox 20 bullshit that passes for "alternative" rock over the last several years. Keep your headphones on.

Thankyou good man. This is what I wanted from this thread. Iris is a good song, but its not a patch on the rest of their stuff! Not a patch!thats the stuff I like!

And what about Slide anyway? Surely thats commercial? I believe that slide did go to # 1 on the Billboard charts. But it was not as popular as Iris. "Always blessings, never losses......"

Sus I love the Goo Goo Dolls (once I got past their name). My favorite songs from them are We are the normal and Naked. Other songs I really like form them are All eyes on me, Amigone, Eyes wide open, Fallin' down and Cuz you're gone. For me their best three albums are "Dizzy up the girl", "A boy named Goo", and "Superstar Car Wash". They do have a very good best of album named "What I learned about ego, opinion, art, & commerce". That is a good place to start if you are just getting into them. "Always blessings, never losses......"

I'm from Buffalo so even though I'm not a huge fan, they will always have a special place in my heart! I remember when they used to be called Sex Maggot, Lol!

Iknow, by popular I mean Slide didn't stay at number 1 as long, didn't get as much radio play or video play as Iris did and in general Iris is much better know than Slide. "Always blessings, never losses......"

Can you think of anyone who sounds similar? Its the sound im just getting into, ive always been into soul but i do have phases and I think im entering a rock/pop or just rock phase now...?

I know when they first came out they were compared to the Replacements a lot. When they first started (Albums like Jed/Hold me up) their sound was much more punk than the later albums. I can't really think of a band that is comparable...well maybe the Gin Blossoms....but the Goo Goo Dolls are much better in my opinion. And I completely understand about throwing in one of their CD's and just listening all the way through over and over again. Most of their albums are that solid. Except when the Bass player is on lead vocals (Robby Takac), sometimes his vocals are a bit much to take. "Always blessings, never losses......"

My first love has always been Soul/R&B music. But since Rap/Hip Hop has dominated, there is not too much "Soul" music being made anymore (remember back in the day with groups like The Bar Kays, Lakeside, Slave, Cameo, Rick James, The Gap Band, Roger/Zapp....). So with my hunger for music ever growing, and my supply growing smaller, I also branched out into more rock which is how I discovered the Goo Goo Dolls. "Always blessings, never losses......"
