MADONNA - "Like a Virgin". "Like a Prayer" is arguably her greatest single, but it was "Like a Prayer" that was Madonna's first #1 and the track that launched her into the pop stratosphere. That performance on the MTV video music awards - over 20 years ago, now - is still talked about as a great TV moment.

KYLIE MINOGUE - "Can't Get You Out of My Head" - in the US, at least.

PRINCE - "Purple Rain". Think of Prince, and the song that pops into mind immediately for most people would be "Purple Rain."

GEORGE MICHAEL - "Faith"

WHITNEY HOUSTON - "I Will Always Love You"

JANET JACKSON - this is a tough one, but I would go with "Miss You Much". It was a massive single at the time, and ushered in her most successful period.

ROLLING STONES - "Satisfaction". They are stuck with that one.

SLY & THE FAMILY STONE - "Everyday People", perhaps...

DOORS - "Light my Fire"

MARIAH CAREY - she is the weakest on this list by far. as for a signature song, I guess her first - "Vision of Love".

MICHAEL JACKSON - "Billie Jean". Pop/funk/r&b classic in every sense of the word. Still sounds fresh and funky and wicked to this day. Too bad his post-Thriller work has been so spotty. And then, there's that whole "Going off the deep end" thingie...

GLORIA ESTEFAN - "Conga"

CELINE DION - "My Heart Will Go On". Yes, it's cloying, but it's an epic ballad, and one of the best of its genre.

LED ZEPPLIN - "Stairway to Heaven"

BEATLES - impossible to pick one... I would have to go with "I Want to Hold Your Hand". That is the song that launced Beatlemania in the US, and escalated it elsewhere.

ARETHA FRANKLIN - "Respect"

For the last 12 years, it's been "Hero." However, since "We Belong Together" has been so strong for her, that may become her signature song.

BEATLES - This one is incredibly difficlt to pick, since they have so many memorable songs which are loved rabidly by their fans. If you like early Beatles, then it would be either "I Want To Hold Your Hand" or "She Loves You" (yeah, yeah, yeah). If you like their later work, then it would either be "Hey Jude" or "Let It Be."

SLY & THE FAMILY STONE - An argument could be made here for "Dance To The Music."

JANET JACKSON - This is tough, but if I had to pick a song which would define her, it would be "Control."

BLACK SABBATH - "Iron Man"

OZZY OSBOURNE - "Crazy Train"

BACKSTREET BOYS - "I Want It That Way"

'NSYNC - "Bye Bye Bye"

BRITNEY SPEARS - "Baby One More Time"

CHRISTINA AGUILERA - "Beautiful"

NIRVANA - "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

2PAC - "California Love"

AEROSMITH - "Dream On"

RUN D.M.C. - "Walk This Way"

R.E.M. - Either "Losing My Religion" or "It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)"

U2 - "One"

Just because they remember an album and movie title, doesn't mean that's the signature hit.

A total lame-o would only know "When Doves Cry".

I'd say Today is probably what most people think of when they think Pumpkins. I'd put Tonight, Tonight and 1979 before Bullet too.
