He should follow the Prince handbook: If your music is so great, then let the music speak for itself.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

He's sampling Shirley Bassey...that has never been done....Oh wait.

Not only has it been done, but it's been done much better, thank you! I like "Gold Digger" (although Jamie Foxx's reptition isn't neccssary) but "Diamonds" is terrible! But especially trying to use Outkast's "Sorry Miss Jackson". "Forever ever forever....(and then it gets really high and you want to kill him)

He has made great hip-hop tracks, but he has yet to make a transcendent album.

I'm listening to it right now, and while it's nowhere near the highs either of those two reached...it's certainly better than their lows. He's an egomaniac, and full of lyrical contradictions, but I personally think he's aces as a producer and keeps pushing himself, even if it gets a little pretentious at times.

It's good hype to get peoples attention.

But if you unplugged his sampler and put a gun to his head and said "Play a Db7b5 chord on the piano or die!"

School would be out.

WEST PREDICTS HIS NEW ALBUM WILL BE A CLASSIC

Hip-hop star KANYE WEST predicts his upcoming album LATE REGISTRATION will be a classic, competing with the works of STEVIE WONDER and PRINCE.

The confident ALL FALLS DOWN rapper, 27, releases the follow-up to his acclaimed debut COLLEGE DROPOUT on Friday (26AUG05), and he's confident it will achieve big sales - and be hailed an instant classic.

He says, "Music hasn't been taken this far in years - since Stevie did it. Since Prince did it.

"I'm not trying to compete with what's out there now. I'm really trying to compete with INNERVISIONS and SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE. It sounds musically blasphemous to say something like that, but why not set that as your bar?"

But West, who collaborates on the album with MAROON 5's ADAM LEVINE, JAMIE FOXX, COMMON, THE GAME, BRANDY, NAS, CAM'RON and JAY-Z, admits that while he wants the album to be a huge success, he's backing away from his initial plans to become a bigger star than MICHAEL JACKSON.

He adds, "If anything, I'd sabotage my career to get some of my anonymity back, or to focus more on directing movies, which is another form of production.

"I would refuse to be as famous as Michael Jackson. Once I see it coming to that point, I would fall back, because I just want to be able to go to the movies."

I love Ms. Shirley Bassey. I wonder if Diamonds would have really gotten my attention if I hadn't heard all alot of the other stuff that's been done before with her music.

Guess I'll have to wait until Tuesday to hear what he's talking about because the three tracks I've heard so far aren't anything special. But of course, I'll take him over 50 any day. I just wish he'd let us hear the music first.
Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

First of all let me just say that I'm hardly a connoisseur of hip-hop, especially mainstream hip hop of the last 10 years, but if you wanna start comparing hip-hop albums to Songs in the key of life or whatever, look no further than Blackalicious' first two albums (I'm totally serious, they have a solid place in my all time favorites in any genre). Kanye West? I don't really see it. His music is certainly significantly better than most of the most visible product in that genre, but even by hip hop standards, he's far from the greatest or most innovative artist out ther.
